Xbox Beta App Gaming Services installed with incorrect permissions

    Hi community,

I've just signed up to the Xbox Game Pass for PC Beta and I can't seem to get any games to install.

I've updated to the latest version of Windows (1903) and installed all updates.

I've tried reinstall Xbox Beta App several times and during each installation, it seems to stall a long time before completing an installation.

I've diagnosed that there's an issue with the GamingService not being able to start.

(Error 1060: The specified service does not exist as an installed service)

There's an error event in the Event Viewer that corresponds to the above error

"The GamingServices service terminated with the following error: The specified service does not exist as an installed service"

I've checked that the executable is actually located in the installation directory

    (C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\Microsoft.GamingServices_1.39.6001.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe\GamingServices.exe)

It seems the account (Local System Account) that is setup to execute it hasn't got the permissions or it's not installed correctly as a service.

I was wondering if there's any workaround for this?

I've seen a few posts like this on the internet with no workarounds posted

    :)

    Xbox (BETA) Installer error 0x803FB005

Will give it a try and report back momentarily.

    ***

Ok, back with some results. Following Nacho's advice. I went to the Xbox companion app "Xbox Console Companion". I made sure I could still connect from my pc to the console residing in another room. Went to the 2nd
option down from your avatar in the top left "My Games" from there I clicked the "Find Games in the Microsoft Store" button. This of course opened the Microsoft Store app, in the banner at the top of the store app, was an ad "get game pass now" or similar
verbiage, clicked get now, it idled for a moment and then told me I already owned that and automatically downloaded and installed it seamlessly.

The "Xbox Beta" app started up and had a notification bar at the top, stating it needed to install additional services that require administrator permissions, proceeded to click install. A new banner appeared "Installing Gaming Services. This may take a
few minutes.". So now just waiting to see if this is the magic fix.

Also wondering if going in the MS store app, and clicking the "Get Game Pass Now" ad would have worked as a first step, because going in the store directly to the beta app ( not via the ad, but still within the store) did
    not.

Will update when 'Game Service" install completes

    ****

    Next update...

The "Gaming Services" install was taking a while, so without interrupting it, I went to check for progress. The "Gaming Services" install was initialized by the Xbox Beta app, but started the download and install via the MS Store. I check the queue for
download progress, 0%... I clicked for details and a MS Store pop up with the same 0x803FB005 error.

However now that the Xbox Beta app is installed it is letting me download games, once a download finishes, I will report back if it launches and runs properly. Will use Sea of Thieves for testing.

If it does not work, will try to install Gaming Services via PowerShell.

    ***

So far Sea of Thieves works fine. You might want to tryout some other games, so may rely more on these Gaming Services or there is always the chance that they are actually already there, but for some reason they are still flagging a missing in the client. Will
continue to test and see if other games are broken as a result.

If it does not work for you, here is where you can find the PS command to install the Gaming Services.

Gaming Service-Unavailable to install onto PC

    Hello Gavin,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

You may try to update Xbox app and launch it. The Gaming Services is related to Xbox app, installation and launching of Xbox app, triggers the notification on the app to install and update Gaming Services.

Alternatively, if update is not showing on the Xbox app, you may try to use the Gaming Service beta tool - Gaming Services Repair Tool for PC | Xbox Support. To set your expectation, the beta app is testing environment where features that can be improved in the general public released.

Should you encounter issues, please let us know by replying to this post.

    Sincerely,

Xbox Console on PC launching the wrong game

    Hi Ishendrei,

Thank you for posting on the Xbox forums.

Did you download the game from the new Xbox (Beta) App or directly from the Microsoft Store App?

Are you trying to launch Sea of Thieves from the Xbox Console Companion app or from the new Xbox (Beta) app?

Have you fully restarted your PC? You may need to re-install the app that is not launching the game properly running PowerShell with Admin permissions. Give us some more information and we'll see if re-installing the app using PowerShell would be the
    best solution.

    Logitech and gamepass problem

...It should be a relatively straight-forward fix involving the currently incorrect permissions of the 'WindowsApps' folder. This is one of the most popular gaming mice in existence, and it is clearly a problem that is on your end, not Logitech's, and not
    ours....
The permissions of the "WindowsApps" folder are not incorrect.

Unlike Steam or games you actually "own" as "regular" Win32 programs, the games from Game Pass are "rented" to you as long as you have an active subscription. In order to prevent people from manipulating the game or circumvent the DRM involved with this
subscription based "renting" of games, it's necessary to have strict permission-restrictions in place to keep the user out of the folder. It's similar to the protected storage of apps on your smartphone, where you also can't directly access the storage where
    apps are installed to.

So you need to contact Logitech, that they can update their software so it works with the restrictions of the WindowsApps folder.
