    Xbox audio passthrough handshake issue - no audio sometimes


    When I am streaming video content on my xbox, I'm having an issue where I have no audio when the stream starts, until I pause/play a few times quickly.

    I have the XBOX set to passthrough so my brand new Denon AVR and $7K of audio equipment is doing the lifting instead of a gaming console.

    It only happens when first starting the stream, and occasionally when unpausing. The AVR is on Multichannel PCM and there is no audio. If I hit pause then play quick, it "catches" and everything is working, with the AVR recognizing the right codec (Dolby Atmos or whatever) and audio being present.

    It's almost like the XBOX is slow to present the information, so the Denon commits to PCM before the xbox sends it through, but then the xbox catches up and sends it - so there's no audio because the AVR is stuck on a codec the XBOX isn't sending. Then the pause/play thing restarts the handshake and for some reason gets the xbox to send it a little faster - just quick enough for it to actually "commit" to the codec in time.

    The real problem here I think is the XBOX doesn't send the audio when the stream starts - there's a delay. So the receiver thinks it's still sending PCM when it's not. This problem doesn't happen with anything else, so I think it's just poor functionality on the xbox.

    Does this sound like this may be true? Is there anything anyone thinks I can do?

    Firstly, please ensure that your Xbox is connected to a compatible audio device, such as a TV or soundbar, and that the audio settings on your Xbox are configured correctly. To check your audio settings, please follow these steps:



    1. Press the Xbox button on your controller to open the guide.

    2. Select "Profile & system" and then "Settings".

    3. Select "General" and then "Volume & audio output".

    4. Check that the correct audio output device is selected and that the volume is turned up.



    If your audio settings are correct, please try the following troubleshooting steps:



    1. Restart your Xbox by holding down the power button for 10 seconds until it turns off, then turn it back on again.

    2. Check for any available updates for your Xbox by going to "Profile & system" > "Settings" > "System" > "Updates & downloads".

    3. Clear the cache on your Xbox by going to "Profile & system" > "Settings" > "System" > "Storage" > "Clear local saved games".

    4. Uninstall and reinstall the streaming app you are using to see if that resolves the issue.

    No Sound at all on Dashboard or System

    Update your HDPVR2 drivers. Make sure that your passthrough is configured properly in Hauppage capture/Streemeez. (Frankly, don't use Happauge Capture. Use Streemeez to configure your audio and video inputs and passthroughs.) Don't blame the hardware when
    you don't have it configured properly. The HDMI signal carries both audio and video. If the handshake is made, everything is there. If it isn't, then you see nothing.

    I have the same issue on my Xbox Series X. Audio passthrough works perfectly fine with Disney+, Amazon Prime and Plex. When it comes to Netflix, it doesn't activate passthrough creating audio problems while playing Atmos content. The titles display Dolby Atmos, but there is no voice, only background music and sounds are played.
