    XboX as an Access Point?


    Hi, I just found out that my Xbox is issuing an unsecured Hidden Network which is congesting my wireless network. The Xbox is not even connected to wifi but connected thru ethernet. The mac address of the hidden network is not Xbox but I knew that it was the Xbox because when I unplug the Xbox, the hidden network will disappear. I am using Inssider to analyze the wireless network in my house and my neighbour’s as well. I know it is not bluetooth because the channel that it uses are wifi channels.

    Did someone intall something in my Xbox remotely that I am not aware of?

    Hi there,

    No as far as I know that is not possible. I would assume that would require additional software/hardware to be able to do that.

    If you want to do that I advise you to buy a wireless accespoint and connect the other devices to that.

    It's unlikely that someone installed something on your Xbox remotely without your knowledge. However, it's possible that your Xbox is acting as an access point, which is causing the hidden network to appear. Let us perform some steps to resolve the issue.



    To disable this feature, you can go to the Xbox settings and select "Network." From there, select "Network settings" and then "Advanced settings." Under "Wireless," you should see an option for "Wireless mode." Change this to "Off" to disable the access point feature.

    To understand it correct. The Xbox didn't connect to WIFI Access Point?

    Please let us more about your Access Point or router to help better. (Type, Modell, etc)

    For sure you tried to restart and hard reset the Xbox and Access Point.

    I thought a 250 GB 360 Had Built in wifi

    you need a wireless access point (usually in a router, but it doesn't have to be) to connect to.

    So yes, you do need a router with an access point, or a wireless access point.
