Xbox App wont switch accounts! Error: the background task activation is spurious

Can you follow the steps on Solution 2 posted above again, but this time Remove the account that you do not use for gaming?

Note: When you remove Microsoft Account, all your data associated with the Microsoft Account, including all Files located on Desktop and stored in Documents, Pictures, Music, and Downloads Folder will be deleted. Please make sure to transfer all your Files, Photos and other data from the account to an External Storage Drive, another location on your computer or OneDrive.

I get this prompt and I click the back arrow then it says like Xbox live cant sign in right now something along those lines. Then I click on the x then click switch account choose the correct account and I get the same original error. That is after doing Solution 1. Then I tried solution too and already had the "apps need to ask me to use this account" set on my email. Is there a way of just getting my account on the Microsoft account that signs in? Like change the Microsoft account that is linked to my Minecraft? Seems like it might be the easier option, also Mojang told me to ask here. So in conclusion neither solutions worked for me. Is there anything else I can try that has not been listed in my list?

We're sorry you are having trouble switching out to your main account for this game. Here are some possible solutions we can offer to help. As always, first make sure your PC has all the latest updates, as well as checking your Microsoft Store updates.

Solution 1:

1. Log out of the Microsoft Store and the Xbox app.
   
2. Launch the game again, it should prompt you to sign into your account.
   

Solution 2:

1. Go to Start > Settings > Accounts > Email & accounts
   
2. Under “Accounts used by other apps”, you should see your different Microsoft accounts, then click on the account you don’t want to use in the game, then click on the drop down and choose “Apps need to ask me to use this account”.
   
3. Try to launch the game again, it should prompt you to choose which account you want to sign in with

Please try the steps with the Microsoft store, the Xbox app and the Game Bar closed:

- Go to Start > Settings > Apps > Apps & features > Microsoft Store > Advanced Options > Repair, then Reset.

- Go to Start > Settings > Apps > Apps & features > Xbox App > Advanced Options > Repair, then Reset.

- Go to Start > Settings > Apps > Apps & features > Game Bar > Advanced Options > Repair, then Reset.

- Press Windows + R. Type TEMP and press enter. Delete all the files inside this folder. Repeat this step by typing %TEMP% and Prefetch. Delete everything on both folders too.

- Press Windows + R. Type WSRESET and press enter.

- Click on Start > Search for Credential manager > Windows credentials. Search for Xbl|DeviceKey, click on it and then Remove. Also, remove all the XblGrts and XboxLive credentials.

- Delete Accounts and Cache folders at:

%userprofile%\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.XboxIdentityProvider_8wekyb3d8bbwe\AC\TokenBroker

- Restart your computer. Check your computer region/country and language and please make sure it is the same as your Microsoft account (https://account.microsoft.com/profile). Also check if your computer time zone and date/time is correct.

- Sign in on the Microsoft store with your Microsoft account. Open the Xbox App and sign in with the same account as the Microsoft store. Open the Game Bar and see if you are able to sign in.
