Xbox app will not let me choose anywhere to install new games

Hi Brandon. My name is Kyle and I'm an independent advisor.

I understand how frustrating it must be that you're unable to install games. Does this issue also happen in the Microsoft Store app?

Have you tried any troubleshooting steps so far?

yeah i have a similar problem, i just clean installed win 11 again after got my new graphics card.

And now i have hard Xbox app Problems, i cant even choose one drive.

if i delete gaming service over powershell, i can choose a drive, after reinstall the gaming service app i can still download the game i choose with xbox app but i need to delete everytime the gaming service app for new installations. its a mess

Make sure you have allowed apps to be installed from anywhere. Open the Windows Settings and go to Apps > Advanced App Settings. Set 'Choose where to get apps' to 'Anywhere'.

We understand that you are trying to install Xbox games however, Xbox app is no longer chooses Drive E. Let us check on this together and sort this out in timely manner for you to get back to gaming.

This could be cause of the PC Settings was set to different drive for new apps installation. Please try to change it by following the steps below:

1. Close Xbox app and Microsoft Store.
   
2. Go to PC settings (Press Windows + I).
   
3. Click on System
   
4. Click on Storage
   
5. Click on Advance Storage settings.
   
   • The click on Where new content is saved
     
   • Under "New apps will save to:" have the user choose the driver they want Apps, meaning games will install.
     
6. Then launch Xbox app and change the default save location from that app as well.
   
7. See if you can install update and new games on Drive E. Please let us know if you see any issues by sharing to us a screenshot (conceal your personal information like gamertag, email address and full name).

For disc based games, all you need do is insert the disc and reinstall, for digital titles, from the Home screen, if you navigate to

My Games & Apps> Ready to Install

the games that your son owns already will all be in there. Just press A on the game you want to install and you can either 'Install All' or 'Choose what to install'

Install All will select both the game and any and all extra Downloadable Content (DLCs) your son owns, the Choose option lets you choose which bits you want to install.

Most game saves go to the cloud based service on Xbox Live, so should hopefully be accessible once the games have reinstalled on the new drive
