Restart your PC: Sometimes a simple restart can help resolve temporary issues. Close all applications, including the Xbox app, and restart your computer.

Clear the Xbox app cache: Clearing the cache can often fix various issues. To do this, follow these steps:

Close the Xbox app.

Press the Windows key + R on your keyboard to open the Run dialog box.

Type %localappdata%\Packages\Microsoft.GamingApp_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache and press Enter. This will open the local cache folder for the Xbox app.

Delete all the files and folders within this folder.

Restart your computer and try launching the Xbox app again.

Reset the Xbox app: Resetting the Xbox app can help resolve problems with downloads and installations. Here's how you can do it:

Press the Windows key + I to open the Settings app.

Select "Apps" or "Apps & features" from the list.

Locate and click on the "Xbox" app.

Click on "Advanced options."

Scroll down and click on the "Reset" button.

Restart your computer and check if the issue is resolved.

Use PowerShell to reset the Microsoft Store cache: If the previous steps didn't work, you can try resetting the Microsoft Store cache. Here's how:

Press the Windows key, type "PowerShell," right-click on "Windows PowerShell," and select "Run as administrator."

In the PowerShell window, enter the following command and press Enter: WSReset.exe

Wait for the process to complete, and then restart your PC.

Launch the Xbox app again and check if you can finish, pause, or cancel the download/installation.

We all have the same issues:

1) Downloading and updating (games, DLCs, patches, etc.) is very slow, always "installation stopped". A 1~2G patch cannot finish downloading for more than 2 weeks.

2) While something is downloading or trying to download, games, apps, or even settings cannot be opened because "has taken too long to start" error. Even pausing, resuming or cancelling the downloadings takes like forever to respond.

3) If all the downloadings are cancelled, that means the games which are trying to download or update are all been deleted (why is that, Microsoft?), games, apps and settings can be opened normally.

I am very angry and frustrating. Microsoft.

Hi there. Would like to jump in. I am having the exact same issue.

I tried to install Hellblade, but it is stuck, I cannot cancel or pause the installation. I cannot launch any other games from the xbox either.

I have reinstalled and reinstalled but the hellblade installation is still stuck.

I have tried all of the above. Still having the issue. It is constantly stuck on 'checking for updates' and is unresponive to anything else. I still cant pause or cancel the downloads either nor can I launch already installed games.

G'day Bangem! That's a bit of a strange issue. What happens when you try to cancel the installation? When you highlight the game in My Games and Apps and press the Menu button, there should be options to Pause or Cancel the download/install. Are you hit
with an error? Do those options not appear?
