Xbox App/Microsoft Store Game Cross-Platform

This isn't a problem that I am having but just a question that I seem unable to find the answer to.

I recently moved over to PC but most of my friends still play on Xbox. I was wondering, if I buy a game on the Microsoft store or Xbox app (for example GTA), can I cross-platform and play with my friends? Or is cross-platform with xbox players only supported
in certain games?

Im afraid you cant cross platform on GTA V there is still a fare few games out there that you can like MODERN WARFARE, FORTNITE and Atlas.

Could you perhaps give a little more detail, are you getting an error trying to download the game or is there no download button and only a purchase button? Are you using the Gamepass Beta app for PC or navigating the Microsoft Store?

Regarding the cross-platform it depends on the game not all games are cross-platform this choice is left to the game developers.

I apologize but it is not possible to get Sea of Thieves for free through the Microsoft Store if you bought it on Steam. This is due to the fact that buying a game on one platform (Steam) does not get you access to it automatically on another platform (Microsoft Store). Moreover, the Microsoft Store does not automatically grant you access to PC games if you have an Xbox account. While certain Xbox games can be downloaded from the Microsoft Store or Xbox App and played on a PC, not all games are cross-platform, and a game's accessibility may be based on the platform it was purchased for.

if you browse all games in the Store on Xbox there is a Capabilities filter that lets you see which games have Cross Platform MP and which have Cross Platform Co-Op
