Xbox App Keyboard

Hey guys... I use the Xbox App every single day and I just can't seem to figure out why my PC keyboard "sometimes" work for chat why other times not.

Isn't the app supposed to detect when there is a textbox and allow for keyboard input?

I can't even message a friend on my Xbox with my PC's keyboard. I would really like to use my keyboard for Rocket League chat

Xbox SmartGlass back-compatibility

I'm playing an Xbox 360 game on an Xbox one console, I want to use the SmartGlass app for the keyboard, but nothing pops up on the app when I open the keyboard. Help.

YouTube on xbox one keyboard problem

Same here. I would suggest to xbox to fix the keyboard on the youtube app by putting the same keyboard as the one on internet explorer.

Keyboard and Mouse Support is coming to the Xbox One. Warframe will be one of the first games to support this great feature. I hope this information was helpful in resolving the issue.

I'm not sure if we are talking about the same thing.

I use the Windows 10 Xbox App on my PC (and stream my Xbox to it) and in the past I used to be able to use my keyboard ON MY PC when typing of text is required. I can't seem to get this working again.

Your response is talking about something totally different that I am aware of, but it won't fix my Xbox App issue.

Hey Schalk,

What type of keyboard are you using? From my experience, High end keyboards need updated drivers, and it is better to update them manually then using the automatic updating feature.

I double checked all settings on the app to make sure there was no way to disable keyboards as well. hope this helps, be sure to come back to let us know which keyboard you are using.

Not quite the same issue but I have a sporadic issue with the app on iOS not letting me type to my system from my phone for messages or error reports. Tapping on my phone just registers as button inputs instead of bringing up a virtual keyboard. Really
annoying and unfixed bug. Maybe the same for the PC app and regular keyboards?

Hi Chris,

I have a Microsoft Sidewinder X6 keyboard, so I trust Microsoft keep their own keyboard's driver up to date

Are you actively using the application to stream from your Xbox? Does your application recognize text input and allow your keyboard to be used?

Which app is this? Does it allow you to type everything on your Xbox using your phone? I'm keen to try this

When this happens to me i just use my controller to click inside the text box and then app shows up the input for keyboard. And if my cursor was already in the textbook I hit back button (B) and then again select the input.

Its annoying but this is what i do as a workaround.

I found the solution! I am now able to type on my Xbox using my actual keyboard in windows.

It seems to only work if your Xbox and Windows is using the EXACT same input language and location. (This is a bit of a problem for me in South Africa because the Xbox doesn't have South Africa input English languages, but I'll cross the bridge when I get
there)

Here is where to set the settings if anyone else needs it.

CHANGING MY "Keyboard language" IN MY XBOX ONE SETTINGS (SETTINGS > SYSTEM > LANGUAGE & LOCATION > INPUT > KEYBOARD LANGUAGE) TO THE EXACT SAME LANGUAGE AS THE KEYBOARD LANGUAGE ON MY PC(SETTINGS > TIME & LANGUAGE > REGION & LANGUAGE > [YOUR LANGUAGE] >
OPTIONS > KEYBOARDS)

1. According to
Xbox One, not all game and app supports mouse and keyboard. For some games and app, the mouse and keyboard support feature need to enabled before you can use it. It's recommended you consult the game or app publisher if you're not sure about this.

2. Almost every USB keyboard work with Xbox One. It depends on the game or the app you'll play on Xbox One. To use a USB keyboard or mouse on Xbox One, you'll need an input adapter. See

3. Yes. The controller will still be active when you're using the keyboard or mouse. And you can use the controller to configure the mouse.
