We understand that you are trying to sign in your Xbox account through Xbox app and is unable to because of the error. Let us check on this together and sort this out. Rest assured, we will do anything in our capability to assist you with your concern.

We would like to know more about it in details so that we can provide a more accurate resolution to your concern.

1. What is the version of Windows you are using?
   
2. Are you getting an error message or error code/
   
3. It is the first time you are signing your account to the device?
   
4. Are you using a personal device or company or school provided device?
   

For the meantime, we can try these troubleshooting steps to resolve issue on Xbox app for Windows.

1. Press the Start button on the taskbar, type settings, and then select Settings.

• On Windows 10, select Update & Security. On Windows 11, select Windows Update.
  
• On the Windows Update page, select Check for updates to see if any updates are available including optional updates for your device.
  
• Once the updates have downloaded, select Install now to start the installation.
  
• Following installation, we recommend that you restart your device so that the latest updates can take effect.
  

2. Make sure both the Xbox and Gaming Services apps are up to date

• Press the Start button on the taskbar, type store, and open the Microsoft Store app.
  
• Select Library.
  
• Under Updates & downloads, check if there are any updates available for the Xbox app or Gaming Services app. If an update is available, select Update.
  

3. Make sure you are signed in to the Xbox app and the Store with the same account.

• When you open the Xbox app on your device, be sure you sign in to the app using your own Xbox account. You may also need to be signed in to the Store (xbox.com) in order to play a purchased game.
  

4. Remove and reinstall Gaming Services

• Select the Search icon on the taskbar, type powershell, right-click on Windows PowerShell, and then select Run as administrator.
  
• In Windows PowerShell, type the following command and press Enter:
  
  get-appxpackage Microsoft.GamingServices | remove-AppxPackage -allusers
  
• In the same window, type the following command and press Enter:
  
  start ms-windows-store://pdp/?productid=9MWPM2CQNLHN
  
• Install the app on that page and select Yes when you receive the User Account Control (UAC) prompt.
  
• Restart your device and try to open Xbox app and sign in the account again.

Opening the Xbox Console Companion app fixed this for me, thank you. It would always prompt me to open the new Xbox app, which I'd do, and it'd display this problem. However, if I ignored it and continued into Xbox Console Companion, it prompted me to sign in there, which succeeded, and that removed the flashing window in XBox app and the repeated mix up of store account.

Incidentally it was also the solution that let me then sign into Mincecraft on PC.
