    Xbox app does not open, can’t install AoE II DE


    Last night, I did a Windows update with Windows 11, version 22H2.

    This morning, I wanted to start playing “Age of Empires II: Definite Edition” and I received an error message asking me to go into the game app’s settings and clicking “repair”. The repair loaded to about 70% and then stopped, so I closed the window. I tried again, but it didn’t work. Hence, I deinstalled the game and bought it anew in the Microsoft Store, but whenever I hit the “install” button, nothing happens.

    Turns out my Xbox app is not opening up. I tried to repair it, I tried to reinstall it … nothing.

    I have restarted my laptop multiple times, too.

    Anybody have an idea on what I can do?

    Xbox PC App: Age of Empires II Always Trying To Install But Never Doing So

    Resetting both the Microsoft Store and Xbox (beta) app didn't change anything. When I re-opened the app it still shows AoE II trying to install/update at 3% with no bytes being downloaded into it.

    It may not be available in your region. It gives me the option to buy or install. Have you tried other devices by chance?
    Yes I tried other devices.

    Would be unfortunate if it's not available in my region in the Xbox app, as it's available on steam, and AOE DE is available too.

    I am sorry you are going through these problems.

    Have you identified if this same problem related to Gaming Services happens to you in other games?

    Please try reinstalling this application by first removing it with the following command and then opening the Xbox app to redirect you to install it again.

    Use the Windows search engine and type "PowerShell", Then run it as administrator.

    On the Administrator Windows PowerShell screen, type the following command and press Enter:

    get-appxpackage Microsoft.GamingServices | remove-AppxPackage -allusers

    Once you run it, restart your PC, install the app as I mentioned before and test the game.

    Hi,

    Most PC games on the Store require to log in with a Microsoft account Gamertag. It's mandatory. You don't need to pay anything it's totally free. The Xbox element of the software helps store your game progress.

    You can still play single player against the computer and you don't need to play against other people, but you must sign in to use the service.
