    XBox App development


    I'm a researcher trying to assess teens video game usage. Right now we are stuck as a field relying on self-reports of teen video game use. But we have no objective measure of if teens actually can accurately report on their weekly video game use. Microsoft tracks all of this information on the Xbox, but it's unreasonable to expect Microsoft to share this information with us and do to privacy laws they likely cannot. My team would like to develop an app that would run in the background while the xbox is on to track this information. However, we would need Microsoft to allow us to host this app on their app store. I can't seem to get a hold of anyone about

    1) if this is possible

    2.) if Microsoft would be willing to work with us here

    Does anyone have any ideas?

    Unless a developer was violating the terms and conditions, the app being on Xbox One would be up to the developer of the app.

    HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript utilizing the WinJS library. I recommend using Visual Studio 2012-2013. IMO, that's the easiest way to do it. Basically, it's essentially the same as developing a Windows 8 app, so you can always search for examples of that if
    you're having trouble finding information. I worked on one these myself, and it was pretty cool. MS gives you a template to work from that more or less gets you jump started in the right direction. MS has an extensive review process and checklist of things
    that you must do, and how it must function, in order for it to pass certification.

    There was some talk of this happening a while back - developers would be able to port "Modern UI" apps from Windows 8. It sounds like some additions are required to support voice recognition in user interfaces etc. Other than that though I can't find any
    kind of developer resources for it - does anyone know where to look for this stuff?

    Thank you very much for the links guys. I will make sure to check it out.. however is very dissapointing to see that developers can't create apps by there own like on Windows 8/RT/WP8. At least i was expecting something like that as several third party apps
    are available. Hope MS can change that in the future.
