Xbox always updates when I turn it on

Sorry to hear about your issue. Please check your console version and match it with the current release for public.

Press the Xbox button to open the guide and select Profile & system > Settings.
Select System > Console info.
Your OS version and Shell version are in the second column.

The February update should have the version of 10.0.22621.3446 (xb_flt_2302ni.230208-1530)

If it's correct and still getting updates when you turn it on, let's perform a factory reset instead to remove potentially corrupted data.

I have my system set to not always be on and Automatic updates and I've never had it once do an update except when I've first turned on my Xbox.

One time my xbox always said i needed an update when I turned it on. A hard reset fixed it for me, but are you in the xbox preview program? If so, then that may be the cause.

I usually just turn my xbox on and it signs on. And yes I tried that but it keeps saying I have to update when the internet test starts and then I try to update it and then it gives me all these codes and does 3 attempts to update and they always fail

Keep an eye on reddit, sometimes the updates don't always come through automatically. I do a manual check when I turn my Xbox on. This helps eliminate the forced updates, which happen 6-8 hours after the OS update release.
