Xbox account linked to microsoft email ALIAS

The link you posted describes how you change emails by adding an alias, then removing the previous email (alias) associated with the Xbox account (i.e. Microsoft account). The problem is I can't add the email I've just created because, upon realisation,
I have instead created a Microsoft account (and as such the email I entered is now the primary alias to said account), which is why I was thinking them as two separate things. I can't link an existing Microsoft account as an alias, and I can't use the email
for that new Microsoft account because it's already an alias. I think there should be clearer documentation about this because it is confusing. Ages ago, every new email you'd create was just that - an email. Nowadays though it's Microsoft accounts and aliases,
and linking emails with Microsoft accounts. Confusing stuff.

I can interpret what you are saying several different ways. Please let me know which one is correct:



Interpretation A: Games are linked to the email address it was purchased under, meaning the ‘then’ primary alias of the Microsoft Account, but not the Microsoft Account itself. But, If that email is no longer the primary alias, the games will be linked through the new primary alias email.



Interpretation B: Games are linked to the Microsoft Account and can be accessed by the aliases on the Microsoft Account.

Xbox profiles (where you purchased games, DLC's or subscriptions) are linked to a Microsoft account, not the email address. It doesn't matter what email alias this account has, your purchases will always be linked to this account. So, you are free to change your email alias without losing them.

Thanks for posting here on the Xbox forums. In order to change the email to your Microsoft account, you would first have to add an alias (Email). After adding the new alias, you can make it the primary email. Once you have the new primary email, you can
remove the old one from your account.
