    Xbox Accessories stuck syncing with BRAND NEW Xbox Elite Series 2 Controller


    Hi there, I have bought a brand new Xbox Elite Series 2 controller today, hoping to start using it on the PC.

    After plugging it in for the first time, I was told I need to update it threw the Xbox Accessories App and to gain access to the paddles on the back of the controller. I did so, it seemed to have updated the controller fine. I then went into the next steps which was setting up the controller (giving it a name etc). It gave me the options to Skip or Continue, I have chosen both options. Now, I'm in a constant loading loop with no option to configure my controller. When it first appeared, it also came with another dialog box that said "Syncing, this will only take a minute" with a progress bar that is always on 0% and never moves (waited for an hour).

    The controller WORKS when I load into games, I just don't have access to configuring the controller or the paddles. The paddles DO NOT WORK.

    I have tried the following

    - Uninstall & Reinstall Xbox App
    - Uninstall & Reinstall Xbox Console Companion

    - Uninstall & Reinstall Xbox Accessories App

    - Connected VIA Cable & Bluetooth

    - Turned off ALL firewalls and tried to restart the Syncing process

    - Tried multiple microsoft accounts

    - Logged into EVERYTHING including windows in multiple microsoft accounts

    - Uninstalled & Reinstalled drivers in Device Manager for Xbox One Controller

    Any help would be appreciated. Cheers.

    Many controller issues can be resolved by putting the controller through a complete power cycle. To power cycle your controller:
    1. Press and hold the Xbox button for 5-10 seconds, until the controller turns off.
    2. Wait a few seconds, then press and hold the Xbox button again to turn the controller back on.

    If your new Xbox Wireless Controller wasn’t able to take a firmware update during the console setup process, you’ll need to update the controller manually.



    However, we’d like to know more about it in details so that we can provide a more accurate resolution for you. To start, please provide us information/answer on the following questions:

    • Current version and edition of Windows Installed? (Search for WINVER in Windows search to see this)
    • Xbox app and Gaming services version?
      • Xbox app > select Profile picture > Settings > About.
    • What troubleshooting steps have you done?
    • Was this working before?
    • Recent activity or changes made before the issue appeared?

    So far, from the details you provided, you can try the following steps and let us know the result. You can just skip those you have done already.

    Step 1: Disconnect Accessories and try updating again

    If you’re having a problem updating your controller, first disconnect any accessories (such as stereo headset adapters and chatpads) from the controller.

    If you were in the process of updating your controller and got the error message, There was a problem updating your controller, select Try again after you’ve disconnected all accessories.

    If you need to verify the firmware version for your controller or manually restart a controller update:

    1. Press the Xbox button  to open the guide.
    2. Under Profile & system, select Settings.
    3. Under Devices & connections, select Accessories.
    4. On the Xbox Wireless Controller screen, select “” to check the firmware version for your controller.
    5. If it says there’s no update available, your controller is current. If it says “Update,” follow the steps provided.
    If this doesn’t solve the issue, continue to the next step.

    Step 2: Power cycle the console and try updating again

    Power cycle your Xbox by pressing and holding the Xbox button  on the front of the console for 10 seconds, until the console shuts off. Then, turn it back on.

    After the console restarts:

    1. Press the Xbox button  to open the guide.
    2. Under Profile & system, select Settings.
    3. Under Devices & connections, select Accessories.
    4. On the Xbox Wireless Controller screen, select “” to check the firmware version for your controller.
    5. If it says there’s no update available, your controller is current. If it says “Update,” follow the steps provided.
    If this doesn’t solve the issue, continue to the next step.

    Step 3: Try a different USB cable

    If you still can’t update the controller, try a different USB cable, and make sure it’s firmly connected to the console’s USB port and the controller’s micro-USB or USB-C port.

    Leave the controller connected via USB and just let it sit for up to 5 minutes, as the update can sometimes take a while to complete in the background.

    Note If the controller doesn’t update automatically, manually restart the update from the Xbox Wireless Controller screen in Devices & connections > Accessories.

    Step 4: Try updating on your PC

    If you’re still having issues, try updating your controller on a Windows PC by using the Xbox Accessories app. For steps on how to do this, see the “Update on PC” section at:

    If this doesn’t solve the issue, your controller needs to be replaced.
