We totally understand that you want to open your Xbox App. The error code 0x80072efd usually occurs if there is some problem with the internet connection. Just a reminder, we are not able to double check your account here manually since we do not have the option to. No worries, we do have some troubleshooting steps here that we may use for the issue.

Before proceeding, I need to know more details so that we can get the best possible troubleshooting for you.

-May I know what was the last changes/updates you made on your end before the issue occurred?
- Is everything completely working before?

Basing on the statement you provided above, here are some troubleshooting steps that you may try:

Disable Proxy



If you are using proxy to connect internet, please disable that, refer to the steps below to disable proxy:

1. Press “Windows Key” + “R”.
   
2. Type “inetcpl.cpl”.
   
3. Go to Connection.
   
4. Click on LAN Settings.
   
5. Check the box which says Automatically detect settings.
   
6. Uncheck the box under Proxy server.
   

If you are still facing issues with it, please follow the steps below:



Reset Windows Update Component.

This will reset and reregister Windows Update Components. This usually solves Windows update related problems.



Note: Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. You need to make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs.

My issue here is that neither the accessories app nor my controller will update. The drivers are supposedly "up to date" and the accessoriesapp still doesn't detect my controller, so I'm completely unable to do anything at the moment.

This is frustrating because it t feels like all these instructions are running in circles leading into the exact same wall.

I CANNOT update my controller. I CANNOT update the Xbox accessories app.

You can try reverting your controller's firmware by trying the steps below:

• Power on and sign into your console
  
• Navigate to My Games and Apps
  
• Navigate to your Apps section and select the Xbox Assist app
  
• Once in the Xbox Assist app, head over to the Articles section, then select Console & Accessories
  
• Once under Console & Accessories you should see "My controller has connection issues after the last update"
  
• Select the Check controller firmware button below and the Xbox Accessories app should automatically open up
  
• Once in the Xbox Accessories app, select Revert Firmware
  

It's important to note that once you've completed this process, you will have to manually update the controller through the Xbox accessories app going forward.

I cannot revert back to previous update. Everytime I get to Xbox accessories my right analog drifts hard to the right making it impossible to select anything. I use a working controller to get passed most of the menus but once my updated controller turns on it's drifts right/down each time.

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Xbox Community. I'm sorry to hear that you're having issues with your controller to the point where you need to reset it. To reset your controller, you need the Xbox accessories app.

The Xbox Accessories app comes pre-installed on Xbox consoles. Press the Xbox button to open the guide, select My games & apps > See all > Apps, and then choose Xbox Accessories.

To open the Xbox Accessories app on Windows, press the Start button, type Xbox Accessories or choose it from the list, and then sign in. If the app isn’t installed on your PC, get it here:

To reset your controller, select your controller in the app and choose Configure. Choose a profile, and then select Edit > Restore to default. This returns your controller to its original factory configuration.
