    Xbox 360 Slim 4 GB Unformatted hard drive


    Recently purchased a refurbished Xbox 360 S 4GB and i am unable to use it. The hard drive says it is “Unformatted” and I am unable to do any system updates. Tried using an external thumb drive and this did not work as well. Is this a fatal issue with the
    xbox?

    It would seem so, yes.

    The 4GB Core 360 consoles use a Flash storage chip on the motherboard. This storage unit is used to store system updates, game saves and title updates. It's not a hard drive, not in the traditional sense.

    This 4GB storage unit is soldered into the Xbox 360 motherboard and can not be replaced by the user.

    Unfortunately you'll need to return this console for a refund.

    Just keep your eyes out for deals in your area. My gaming store near where I live had a sale on recently. Traded in my older 360 for a 4 gb slim and bought the hard drive on sale there as well. All told, my 4 gb slim with 250 gb hard drive cost me only
    $130.
