XBox 360 "My Games" Temporarily Unavailable, Status Code: 80072efe

Today, when opening "My Games", the console started giving the error message "This feature is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later."

The first status code it gave was 80072746-00000000-00000000. Before I did anything, I checked the network settings and the test completed successfully with only checkmarks.

Then I followed the instructions in this thread and cleared the cache from the storage settings menu. I did not have a "Marketplace System Data" item present in the System Settings -> Storage -> Hard Drive -> System Items menu, so I was not able to
follow that step. The only items listed there on my console are "Microphone Calibration Data", "Optional Media Update", "Rights Database", "Video Bookmark Data" and "Xbox Improvement Program Data". I also changed my DNS settings to the Google 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4
servers from my router's IP (which I think the router was using those already). The test network connectivity tool completed successfully after the DNS changeover as well.

Upon rebooting the console, the status code changed to 80072efe-00000000-00000000 with the same "temporarily unavailable" message.

Clearing the cache and rebooting again, the code seems to change back and forth between the original 80072746 and the new 80072efe, now more frequently the first code than the second.

Please advise how to unblock the "My Games" menu item so I can play my downloaded games and not just the ones I have the disc for.

Finally redownloading my profile has no success. This error appears:

"Some Xbox LIVE content is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later. Status Code: 80072ee2"

It could be an issue with Microsoft's servers (I know, RIGHT?!). I would suggest deleting your profile, clearing cache, and you not having those items on your HDD could be an issue. So if it still doesn't work, backup all your stuff, and format your HDD.

 

Fortunately didn't have to go with a nuclear option. I took it to a Microsoft Store and while it was on their network, it successfully applied an update and then was able to open "My Games" and play games from the HD. The actual problem may have been with
my ISP or router.

Question for next time Irixion, when you say 'delete your profile', that's just wiping the local copy, right? Permanent additions like downloaded games licenses, earned achievements and avatar accessories are backed up somewhere? Or do you have to do that
manually?

 

Yes, the local profile. The licenses are tied to your profile, and if you're logged into Live, then you won't have any issues. Transferring licenses are also a thing, but that's only between consoles. Everything is sync'd to your online profile. Save games
are separate, as are avatar accessories.
