Xbox 360 elite failing to boot

when I turn on the Xbox 360 the on-off light is on but the circle is completely black. There is nothing showing on the TV and I have tried using HDMI HDTV composite and the standard TV AV. The power supply is showing normal signs and it is not connected
to ethernet. only power, the various video types and Kinect.

If the power supply comes on but the console is unresponsive then it might be the interal power unit in the console. Does it act like it wamts to come on at all?

It's a xbox 360 elite, I have tried plugging in the HDD after power up. It then re-boots back to main screen

I'm having the same problem on an Xbox 360 elite. Password is accepted and starts downloading profile then fails half way through

I think he is talking about the latest major update to the xbox 360 OS.

another thing to try is:

Reset XBOX 360 Failed System Updates

With the console off, press and hold the sync up button.

While holding the sync button press the power button to turn on the console

Continue to hold the sync button until the Console has booted up completely.

During the boot process the console should clear any failed updates, allowing you to use it normally.
