: Xbox 360 DNS Server Problem
Hello everyone,

i resently bought a second hand Xbox 360 slim and it wont connect to the internet. It always shows the message " DNS server cant resolve XBOX live servername".

My router is a FritzBox 7590WB.

I tried updating the software with a usb drive to multiple versions,

using hotspot via phone or different wireless connection,

multiple resets,

gave the console specific ports in the Fritzbox App,

using the Google DNS adress 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4,

lan connection,

contacted Telekom (my ISP) and they said its not there fault,

i tried reseting the router

and at last i used an older xbox from a friend and it connects with no problems.

It does connect to the router but not past that.

The default network settings are:

IP Adress 192.168.178.22

Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0

Gateway 192.168.178.1

DNS Primary 192.168.178.1

Secondary 0.0.0.0

If you need any other informations let me know, but i am really at a lost right here.

Try to connect to the internet/xbox live with a LAN cable.

Or...

---Google DNS and Port

DNS1 - 8.8.8.8

DNS2 - 8.8.4.4

Port - 3074 (you might need to open this first via port forwarding / uPnP
in the router settings)

If the Xbox still doesn't connect; Hard reset it with LAN cable connected to the internet. Make sure you use the right LANport of your router.

*You can also try to connect with the WPS function

It's always possible the xbox's Wi-Fi receiver isn't functional anymore (broken)

It's a DNS issue. I fixed it by manually the DNS servers on the Xbox 360. I used Level3's public DNS servers:

209.244.0.3

209.244.0.3

Set DNS servers in xbox 360 network settings to manual, you can get the info for the primary and secondary DNS servers from your ISP.

Besides checking on the double NATing issue, you should also check what external DNS servers you end up using. It appears you've specified both the gateway and the 360 itself as the DNS servers. Which DNS servers is the router using? In any case,
if you're going to manually set the DNS servers on the 360 (rather than letting the router automatically specify them) point just to the router as DNS and perhaps another backup DNS server that's not specified in the router, but not the 360 itself.
