    Xbox 360 disc and dvd wont play in Xbox one disc drive.


    Xbox 360 disc and DVD wont play in Xbox one disc drive but Xbox one game disc do work. I've tried the disc in my old 360 and they work perfectly so I know it ain't the disc. Also the digital titles I do own also work from the 360 so its not like the backward
    cap ain't working. The games in question are Mass effect 3 and Doom 3, I also tried Lost Odyssey but I got the free copy now. The DVD's don't load and the game don't install. I hear them spin up in the disc drive and then nothing. It seems to have happened
    after the Dec 14 update. I've also tried turning the power mode from instead on to hard on and off, It did nothing but aggravated me. My console is completely up to date. What else can I do to solve this issue? Or is there a fix coming out soon for this issues?

    DVD playback quality is still atrocious.

    I still think Xbox 1 is a better DVD player than my Xbox 360 slim 250gb console. When I play any DVD on my 360, even if it has one tiny finger print smudge on the disc, the Dashboard will bring up a notification bubble "attempting to read media". On Xbox
    1, it can have several finger smudges on the disc and the Xbox 1's disc drive will still be able to play and read it. I must be one of the lucky ones with a good disc drive and have had Xbox 1 since Day 1 (Day 1 edition) ;D

    My xbox one will only read certain discs...

    It wil read dvds and some of my xbox one games. Blu rays wont play at all. Sometimes it takes few tries of putting the disc in and taking it out but eventually it works or atleast it used to. I inserted titanfall 2 and it started right up. Ill try an xbox
    360 game in the morning. I can hear the disc drive trying to read to the disc but eventually it stops. Ill report my issue to the insider club as well. Hurry up with the scorpio already and i wont have this issue Xbox 360 disc and dvd wont play in Xbox one disc drive. ;)

    Hi,

    Unfortunately it sounds to me like your Optical drive has developed a fault. There are two lasers in the drive assembly, one for reading Xbox 360 games and movie DVD discs and one for reading Xbox One and Blu-ray discs.

    To see if your drive is failing, try playing regular DVD movie discs (not an HD movie discs as these are on Blu-ray format). If the DVD films fail to play then your drive is faulty and you'll need to send the machine to have this repaired.

    Xbox 360 games are on DVD discs.

    Verify that your consoles drive is functioning. Try playing a DVD movie disc, not a Blu-ray disc.

    If your console will not play DVD then the drive has hardware fault.

    Sounds like the laser in your console's Blu-ray drive has a hardware issue.

    To test if your Xbox One X has issues reading discs, try playing a DVD movie disc. If can't read DVD movie discs either then your console has a hardware fault.

    Note: It must be a DVD movie disc, not a Blu-ray movie disc.

    There are two lasers in the Blu-ray drive, one for reading Blu-ray discs and one for DVD discs. Xbox One games use Blu-ray and the 360 console used a DVD drive.

    Xbox 360 titles are on standard DVD discs. They have never been available on HD DVD. The discs themselves are readable just fine by the Xbox One's optical drive.

    The Xbox One has a Blu-ray drive. Inside this drive are diodes, these diodes emit lasers to read discs. Xbox One games are on Blu-ray disc and this uses a different Diode to Xbox 360 discs which use DVD discs.

    The Diode that is used to read Xbox 360 discs and DVD's has failed. This is why Xbox 360 discs and DVD discs are not working when you insert them into your console.

    This is not something you can repair yourself. You'll need to set up a repair with Microsoft to fix it.
