Xbox 360 controller won't sync with receiver

Hi, I have a pc Xbox 360 controller receiver (looks 1st party, as it says "Microsoft" on the front and "Microsoft(R) Xbox 360[TM] Wireless Receiver for Windows(R)".

It worked fine until it just decided not to work anymore. I don't know what the problem is, I've installed the required drivers, most people say that you need to manually install drivers through Device Manager, where it says "Unknown Device", but mine just
says "Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows", so it's being detected fine.

After turning on the controller, holding the Sync button on the receiver and the Sync on the controller, the receiver flashes and the controller's lite goes in a circle, until it times out and nothing interesting happens.

I really need everyone's help here, many thanks in advance for whoever figures this out.

P.S.: My OS is Windows 10 Pro

Hi,

The Xbox 360 wireless protocol is not Bluetooth. This is why your 360 controller won't sync to your wireless receiver. PlayStation Dual Shock uses BT, the 360 does not. Only the Xbox One X controller can be connected via Bluetooth.

If you want to use a wireless 360 controller you will need to buy the Xbox 360 wireless gaming receiver. Don't buy the Xbox One receiver as it does not support 360 controllers either.

Well for one that's for the Xbox One, I'm talking about an Xbox 360 controller. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the driver countless times, it just won't connect. Something I've noticed is that when I press the sync button on the controller and then on
the receiver, the controllers lights quickly stop flashing, indicating that it is in some way communicating with the receiver, but just won't connect. I've also tested both the controller and the receiver on a different computer and they are both perfectly
functional meaning the blame definitely lies with Windows.

Hello, everyone and thanks for your support (Happy New Year, too!).

I have recently bought a Windows 10 laptop and for some reason, the controller works absolutely fine on it, so the receiver is still good. However, I still want to be able to use it on my PC. So what could be the problem?

Thank you for keeping us updated. The troubleshooting steps that have been completed thus far seem to indicate an issue with the computer that the receiver is being connected to. Are you able to connect the wireless receiver to a different Windows 10 computer,
and sync the controller to the wireless receiver? This is so we can narrow down the remaining troubleshooting steps that must be taken to get the controller to sync to the wireless receiver. Be sure to let us know the results!

Hello, I've completely clean-booted my PC and also installed the latest updates (that took 2 hours btw), but still, of course, it doesn't work :[ .

The curious thing is that if I hook the receiver up to my android phone with an OTG cable, the receiver and controller get connected instantly once I hold both sync buttons, but the controller never shows "player 1", as all lights flash on an off.

Any more help, please?
