    Xbox 360 Controller Won't Connect?


    Hi! I want to play a game on my pc with a controller. I plugged in an xbox 360 controller and my computer made a noise. I held the xbox symbol and the light started flashing. It won't stop flashing and doesn't work when I try to use it. I tried switching
    controllers to a different 360 controller, but the same thing happened. I also tried to download a driver for Windows 7 and that didn't help. I'm out of ideas?

    You are talking about the Xbox One controller, right? The Xbox 360 wireless controller won't work even if using a USB cable.

    just to be sure are you using a wired controller or are you using a wireless controller with play and charge cable.

    If you are using a wireless controller (even with play and charge cable) then you will need to use the wireless receiver in order to connect a wireless 360 controller to a PC, see this link for the details: Xbox 360 Wireless Gaming Receiver for Windows

    If it's a standard wired 360 controller (or you own a wireless receiver) please see this link for the steps you can try:

    Nope, the Xbox 360 controllers won't work with the Xbox One. The Xbox 360 controllers use IR to connect to the console, whilst the Xbox One uses WiFi direct (way faster than IR).

    Hi,

    I suspect you're attempting to connect an Xbox 360 wireless controller to your PC using a Play & Charge cable? Effectively making it a wired controller?

    I'm afraid this won't work. Unlike Xbox One/Series X controllers, wireless 360 controllers are always wireless, connecting a Play & Charge simply charges the battery or powers the controller if no battery is present. Unfortunately the cable doesn't send data.

    The only way to connect these controllers to a PC is via an Xbox 360 gaming receiver. The receiver for Xbox one controllers is not compatible.

    Hi,

    The Xbox 360 wireless protocol is not Bluetooth. This is why your 360 controller won't sync to your wireless receiver. PlayStation Dual Shock uses BT, the 360 does not. Only the Xbox One X controller can be connected via Bluetooth.

    If you want to use a wireless 360 controller you will need to buy the Xbox 360 wireless gaming receiver. Don't buy the Xbox One receiver as it does not support 360 controllers either.

    Hi,

    There aren't any drivers to download for Windows 10 as the drivers for Xbox 360 controllers are already built into the OS.

    The Xbox 360 controller uses its own type of wireless protocol, it's not Bluetooth and so it can't be connected to a PC directly without additional hardware. It needs an Xbox 360 wireless gaming receiver for use on a PC. This receiver needs to be specifically for Xbox 360 controllers. The receivers for the Xbox One controllers won't work either.
