Xbox 1 s extremely slow for no reason after recent update

So I haven't touched my Xbox 1 S in 2 years due to having next Gen console. I recently set it up from a factory reset and now it's extremely slow. I've done multiple factory resets and none of them worked. One more thing to note is that I did the reset 2 years ago and I recently just set it up. I don't know if this is a CPU issue or HDD issue. If anyone can help, please let me know. Also, games are very laggy as well and streaming services, such as YouTube, has weird screen glitches.

    :)

    Hi SethToth,

Inbehalf of my colleague, I will provide you further troubleshooting steps that might help you to fix your issue. You may need to power cycle your device.

To perform a power cycle reset, follow these steps:

    - Unplug the power cable from the back of the router, modem, or gateway for 5 minutes. If you have a router and a modem, unplug the power cable from both devices.
    - Restart your console. Press and hold the Xbox button  in the center of your controller to open the Power Center. Select Restart console and then select Restart. (If the console appears to be frozen, press and hold the Xbox button  on the console for 10 seconds, until the console turns off. After the console shuts down, touch the Xbox button  on the console again to restart.)
    - After 5 minutes, plug the modem or gateway in first, and wait for all the lights to return to their normal state."
    - If you are using a router, plug in the router and wait for all the lights to return to their normal state.
    - Test your connection again (Profile & system > Settings > General > Network settings > Test network speed & statistics). If this does not resolve the connection problem, continue to the next step.

Yes I've tried HDMI, TV, and even cache. I know my wifi works fine cause my laptop has no issues with it at all. I even checked if I'm using the 2.4 or 5 ghz network and I am 100% using 5ghz. I haven't tried using Ethernet since I don't have a long enough cable to run from my router to console. Hopefully if I can get my hands on an Ethernet cable I can update this post but till then l, no luck either way.

    Hello SethToth,

Thank you for sharing this with us and welcome to Xbox Forums.

We truly understand that you're experiencing issues with your Xbox One S after a recent update. I know you have done some steps that could possibly help us for the issue we have, and we appreciate you for that. However, after you've done those steps still the issue persists. Nothing to worry, I'd be happy to help you troubleshoot this issue.

Before we proceed, allow me to ask few questions to help us understand the issue further:

    1. Have you checked if your Xbox 1 S has enough storage space?
    2. Have you tried clearing the cache on your Xbox 1 S?
    3. Have you tried connecting your Xbox 1 S to a different network to see if the issue persists?
    4. Have you tried updating your Xbox 1 S to the latest software version?
    5. Have you tried using a different HDMI cable to connect your Xbox 1 S to your TV?
    6. Have you tried using a different TV to see if the issue persists?

In the meantime, I will be providing you steps that you can apply from your end, please see the following:

Note: You can skip the steps you have done on your end prior this interaction.

Clear the cache: This can be done by:

    • Press and hold the power button on the front of the Xbox One S until it fully powers off.
    • Unplug the power cable from the back of the console.
    • Wait for at least 10 seconds before plugging the power cable back in.
    • Press the power button on the front of the console to turn it back on.

Note: Clearing the cache on your Xbox console will not delete your game saves or data files. Clearing the cache will only remove temporary files that are stored on your console, such as updates and system notifications. Your game saves and data files are stored separately on your console's hard drive or in the cloud and will not be affected by clearing the cache. However, it's always a good idea to back up your game saves and data files regularly to avoid losing any important progress or information.

If clearing the cache doesn't resolve the issue, proceed with the following steps:

Disconnect external hard drive: If there is an external hard drive connected to your console, turn off your device and then disconnect the external hard drive. Turn on your device without it and see if it helps.

Check system update: Make sure your Xbox One S is running the latest update.

    • If you're not sure if your Xbox One is getting the latest updates, try these steps:

Make sure your console is connected to the Internet, then press the Xbox X on a sphere Xbox logo button to open the guide and select Profile & system (your account icon) > Settings Gear-shaped Settings icon.

Select System > Updates & downloads > Update console.

If you see a grayed-out No console update available instead of Update console, it's because you're already up to date.
    • You can set your console to automatically receive updates when it's turned off:

Press the Xbox X on a sphere Xbox logo button to open the guide and select Profile & system (your account icon) > Settings Gear-shaped Settings icon.

Select General > Power mode & startup. Make sure Power mode is set to Instant-on.

Go back (press B on your controller) and select System > Updates & downloads. Check Keep my console up to date.

You can also check on this link for more details: Perform offline system update | Xbox

Check your internet connection: If you're experiencing lag during online play or while using streaming services, like YouTube, it could be due to a poor internet connection. You can try resetting your internet connection or using a wired connection instead of Wi-Fi.

Check other devices if having the same issue, if possible, another Xbox device: This will help us isolate the issue we have to see if this is with the device itself or with your internet connection.

If none of the steps above work, you may want to try a hard reset of your Xbox One S. This will erase all data on the console, so be sure to back up any important data before proceeding. To perform a hard reset, follow these steps:

    1. Press the Xbox button on your controller to open the guide.

    2. Select Settings.

    3. Select All Settings.

    4. Select System.

    5. Select Console info & updates.

    6. Select Reset console.

    7. Select Reset and remove everything.

Note: Resetting your Xbox to factory default with the option to remove everything will erase all data and settings from your console, including games, apps, profiles, and saved data. This means that you will need to reinstall all games and apps, and set up your profiles and preferences again. It is important to note that resetting your Xbox to factory default is a drastic step and should only be done as a last resort if you are experiencing serious issues with your console. Before resetting, you should try troubleshooting steps or contact Xbox support for assistance.

If the issue persists after a hard reset, please let me know.

    I hope this helps.

    Kind regards,

Slowed Xbox One after recent update.

There's a troubleshooter and a very informational tech article about common Xbox One issue I'd recommend looking at here:

    https://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-one/console/system-updates-solution

    https://www.digitaltrends.com/gaming/common-xbox-one-problems-and-how-to-fix-them/

Have you considered getting your console professionally serviced? If you're experiencing multiple issues you may want to either upgrade to a new console or get the one you have looked at. Lagging and power failure could be very well associated with age (since
its an original model console) and other internal issues. https://support.xbox.com/en-US/browse/xbox-one/warranties-and-repair
