Xbox 1 Games on Xbox Series X

I'm wondering whether I should pre-order the games I want now for the Xbox 1 and then move them over to the Series X when I get it or whether to get the games for Series X. Will games bought for Xbox 1 play better to Series X standards or will they just
play to Xbox 1 standards on the better console?

    :)
