Xbox 1 controller stopped working correctly on one game

The Xbox 1 wireless controller I normally use for games stopped working with the PC game Final Fantasy XIV specifically.

It works perfectly fine with every other game.

I've already contacted the game publisher Square Enix and have gone through their tech support with no results what so ever.

On May 27th this year, while playing the game, my home internet cut out suddenly for about a minute. Disconnecting me from the game. Shortly after it came back, and I'd begun loading back into the game, our power shut off for a few seconds forcing my pc to shut down. While rebooting a small windows update was applied. When I finally got back into the game again, my controller was behaving as if all button maps were wrong. Checking the in game key bindings however showed everything correctly. After re-calibrating the controller in game, the buttons were again matching what the key bindings were. Except, the camera in game slowly rotated constantly as if the right analog was having drifting issues, and the Left and Right triggers buttons could no longer be held at the same time (the game registered as neither being pressed if both were pressed). Something similar to what I'd expect with issues reading xinput vs direct input, but no way of verifying that's the problem to begin with, let alone how to fix it.

Most common results when looking for other people experiencing the same issue is trying to connect wireless via blue tooth. However, I use the controller wired at all times, instead of the wireless function. And don't even have a way to use blue tooth on my pc itself anyways.

I tested with a second controller, my older wireless Xbox 360 controller, same exact problem. Buttons not registering correctly until re-calibrating, then "drift" and triggers not working properly.

I tested both controllers with other games, they both worked perfectly fine and normal with all other programs I used them with. I tried re-calibrating them in windows directly, which at first showed similar issues with buttons assigned incorrectly, but afterwards worked perfectly again.

I downloaded a game controller tester, both controllers showed as working fine. All drivers are up to date. I downloaded and tried the Xbox Accessories App, no sign of errors there, nothing in it fixed the issue.

I tried reverting back before the windows 10 update that was installed, it made no difference. I tried reinstalling the game entirely, including making sure all files were deleted before attempting to reinstall, the problem persisted still. I tried different USB ports, no change. Disabled other drivers / unplugged other USB devices, no change. Adjusted various options in the game, no change. Temporarily disabled the Microsoft Device Association Root Enumerator as suggested by several people including Square Enix tech support, no change. I even tried loading the game as a "non-steam game" since I do not own it via Steam, and attempted to use Steam's controller functionality, but the game would simply no longer recognize the controller existing at all.

I've reached a point where SE tech support could no longer help or offer advice of any kind. Even though the problem only exists with their game. I'm now at a wall where the only idea I have left is reinstalling Windows 10, but since I have no guarantee that would even work, I am hesitant to do so. As its an enormous use of my time getting it set back up and everything reinstalled. And am hoping for some direction for things to try I haven't considered, or confirmation that a reinstall should very likely work.

I had tried software for this before as well, but went ahead and gave it another try.

While the software is set up, and buttons correctly mapped, the same problems persist. If I keep it set to my xbox one controller, the buttons will read incorrectly, after calibrating the rotating starts again.

If I set it to the Xbox 360 simulated by the software the result is no buttons are recognized at all, except for the right analog which moves the cursor / functions same as the mouse.

To the best of my knowledge the software was setup correctly, any tutorial and guide shows all the same things, and I was careful to try not to miss a step.

Included pictures of the in game options for controllers. The Device menu would also include and "Xbox 360 emulated" option with the software running.

I have tried changing all of these options. Nothing has any effect, except if I set Stick Sensitivity to 0, then, along with the camera moving as if the right analog is drifting, the character will walk forward to the right as if the the left analog was being held that direction

The game does recognize the controller as an Xbox One controller in the options.

I went to change the Alias value in the cfg file, when I changed it to the one you have there it reverted to the game reading the buttons wrong again. For example, Left Trigger and Right Trigger would rotate the camera, despite the key binds for camera movement being set to the Right Analog still.

After Re-calibrating again it returned to the same rotating camera issues.

And the value in the cfg had become : {90,91,88,89,41,40,32,33,65,64,56,57,3,1,0,2,4,49,8,5,48,9,7,6}

I can try to create a test account as well, but wanted to respond with the above information right away.

Regarding to your information I assume that you can't use your Xbox controller in FF14.

It seems that you have done almost every troubleshooting step to fix this problem but it does not work.

Could the game recognize the controller as an Xbox controller?

You can try to serach this file in FF14 games folder and find the FFXIV.cfg right-click it open with the note pad and find the Alias.

Change the value in the {} 90,91,88,89,41,40,32,33,73,72,48,49,3,2,1,0,4,6,10,5,7,11,9,8.

Restart it again.

You can also try to create a new test account, and switch to the newly created account to see if the controller in FF14 is working as normal.

Create a local user or administrator account in Windows - Microsoft Support

If still can't work maybe reinstall the system can help you solve your problem.

This information is from a game BBS so I don't promise it works, after changing this data try to change the type of your controller in the game.

This game seems haven't a good support for the Game Controller, and according to the information from the Internet XBOX ONE controller should

be recognized as an XBOX ONE controller. Maybe you can use certain software to simulate your Xbox One controller as an XINPUT device and see if it works.

How is it connected to the computer? Does the second controller work but just not show up?

I connect controllers to xbox in wireless

Controllers works both but like one ( for understand: if i play with 2 player i have that 2 controllers move the same character and windows only see 1 controller) all controller work correctly but like one
