Xbox 1 Controller not Connecting to Laptop?

this is a known common issue. a few things that worked for me.

1. connect the controller to the laptop rather than xbox. i use the xbox wireless apadter so i can wirelessly connect my controller to the laptop.

or

2. start the xbox then load the game. once in the game start the xbox app and start streaming it to your laptop. then resync the controller to the xbox. this works 8 out of 10 times.

You'll need to download the Xbox Accessories App which you can do here: https://www.microsoft.com/store/productId/9NBLGGH30XJ3

Then plug your device into the computer, open the app, and then find the device. You should be able to download the update there.

Is this a Bluetooth connection or a wired connection?

And make sure your controller has been updated through the accessories app. I couldn't tell if you meant the laptop is fully updated or the controller itself in your post, which is why I mention it.

Here are the steps you can follow to connect multiple Xbox controllers to your laptop:

Install the Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows on your laptop: The Xbox Wireless Adapter allows you to connect up to 8 Xbox Wireless Controllers to your laptop without the need for a USB cable.

Turn on the Xbox controller: Press and hold the Xbox button on the controller until the controller turns on.
