  1. X360 Kinect issues with calibrating the sound (wants to recalibrate everytime after restart)

Soooo, got myself a Kinect, and an X360 like 6-8 years ago, brand new from a retail-shop, no modding, no misusing. I discovered at the beginning that it wants to recalibrate the sound everytime i turn on the console, but didn't give a duck about it. You
know, the procedure of turning up the volume of your speakers, playing different ambient sounds, stay quiet, etc., etc. I always cancelled this procedure, since i knew it is not keeping the settings, and didn't want to deal with this every bloody time i turn
on my console, cause it takes loooong minutes. The camera was working well though, and we had a lot of fun with the motion-games, so i was not missing the mic anyway.

It started to bother me nowadays, i got a piece of Skyrim, it has a checkbox within the settings, so i could use Kinect to use voice commands. Now, after quitting the menu, a window appears, that the Kinect voice control is not possible, and i should recalibrate
my Kinect microphone. So, i quit the game, go to settings, recalibrate the Kinect-mike, restart the game, aaaaand!... nothing! Same window: calibrate your Kinect. I cannot command the console neither, to turn it off, or turn up volume.

So my problem is, that somehow the console is not keeping the settings, although the calibrating procedure is a success. What to do? Firmware? Or Hardware issue?

    :)

Hi there, I suggest perhaps calibrating your Kinect? Go to Settings --> Kinect to recalibrate it. In which game is the happening to you?

How to Calibrate the Kinect Sensor

The Kinect tracks your body movements which control the console. If there is a problem with tracking your body movements, you’ll need to recalibrate the Kinect sensor.

    Recalibrate the Kinect sensor

To recalibrate the Kinect sensor, you need a calibration card. You will get this card with Kinect Adventurous and many other Kinect games. You can also order a replacement calibration card from Microsoft store.

To recalibrate the Kinect sensor with the Calibration card, follow the steps as following:
    • Press the Guide button on your controller and go to Setting to select Kinect Tuner.
    • Select Calibration and hold up the Calibration card so Kinect can see it.
    • Try to match the eyes on your card to the glasses on the screen by moving the card forward, backward, or sideways. In addition, try to match the edges of the calibration card to the rectangle on screen.
    • You have to hold the card still until the green box fills.
    • Repeat the last two steps until the sensor calibration is complete.
Finally you will see a confirmation message entitled “Calibration Complete”

Note: Always use an original calibration card. Do not try to copy or use a copy to recalibrate as it might not work properly.

Kinect needing recalibration after extended off time (with instant on activated)

    Growlinraper

    Not correct.

According to staff, and my own knowledge of the technology, once the reset has been performed, and the INITIAL calibration has been performed upon initial startup, it should never repeat the calibration after it has been shut off for several hours.

    Factory reset>initial startup>calibrate Kinect>turn off normally>restart>immediate Kinect calibration.

The above sequence (in plain English) is what it is doing. After a off period of several hours, the Kinect will require a recalibration after the initial calibration has been performed. Nothing in the room has been changed or the sensor has not moved since
    the initial calibration.

Why then does the system do a second recalibration on its own when the system has not moved or the sound is different after it is shut off for the night? I expect the first calibration to be set where I want it to hear me from across the room. A second calibration
is unnecessary. If the room is quiet during a calibration, either it will not respond to spoken commands, or I must be within 2 feet of the sensor to pick up my voice to respond to spoken commands.

Kinect vs Kinect: Why Xbox 360 Kinect is better?

Sounds like your Kinect is poorly calibrated.

The old Kinect requires 1.8m distance. The new one requires 1.4m.

There are vastly more voice commands and mine work 90% if not 95% of the time. The only issues I have are when using Xbox Record That in a loud game.

Xbox On works fine but you need a quiet environment.

Mine recognises me fine (except with contacts in), and rarely confuses me if another profile is signed in.

You obviously need to recalibrate your Kinect.

    Xbox On Voice Command

I've had to recalibrate my kinect voice 2-3 times since I've had it due to multiple condition changes. Such as turning on fans to battle this hot weather :) Try re-calibrating the Kinect and see if it helps. (Calibrate it with the most common noise pollution
when you're in the room using the xbox)
