    Hello,

    I have been using rechargeable AA batteries (eg Eneloop, Duracell) in my children’s X Box controllers.

    They inform me that the controllers are not charging in the dock or via USB.

    I see there is another small socket in the controller for a dedicated battery pack (eg Venom)

    Is an X Box X controller only designed to charge via USB if using a battery pack, or should it be recharging the rechargeable AA batteries via USB?

    It will only charge the official battery pack via USB, and will not charge AAs

    I purchased an eight AA charger from Amazon, I’ve been using rechargeables for at least a decade and that way I always have fresh ones

    In short: yes, they would be bad.

    Xbox controllers are designed for 2 x 1.5 V AA batteries, though you can also safely use 2 x 1.2 V rechargeable AA batteries. Exceeding 1.5 V for each battery would damage the controller.

    Are you using the "play and charge" rechargeable batteries for the controller, or standard AA's? If you are using the rechargeable pack, try using standard AA batteries. There have been reports of controller resets with some rechargeable battery packs.
    I'm using standard AA batteries.
