    X BOX S 2nd controller paired but wont work as second controller for multiplayer


    Hi I got an XBOX S yesterday, i have two controllers, me and my wife want to play local two player( Mortal Kombat etc) but when i try to activate the 2nd controller it wont recognise me pressing anything apart from the BIG X button which is useless, any ideas please?

    Thank you for reaching out to us about your issue!

    When you're launching the game and going to presumably, the versus menu, is it asking you to sign into an account when attempting to add the second controller?

    Can you verify that the second controller has been updated?

    Press the Xbox button to open the guide,

    Navigate to Profile & system > Settings > Devices & connections > Accessories, and then select the controller you want to update.

    On the Xbox Wireless Controller screen, select “…” to check the firmware version for your controller.

    If it says “Update,” select Firmware version, and then follow the steps provided.

    Hi I have the same problem (wife wants to destroy me in Mortal Kombat too). Both controllers updated and work fine individually within games but when trying to use as a second player the second controller isn't recognised. Oddly the Xbox and screen shot buttons still work, just nothing that interacts with the game.

    I've tried resyncing the controllers, hard resets, no luck.

    I'm new to Xbox so could be something obvious I am missing. But there doesn't seem to be all that much that I could have done to have this problem.

    I had this same problem and followed TonicTiara13787's advice. 2nd controller paired and now works fine, so recommend others experiencing this problem to try the same. The pairing button on the console is on the front, left hand side, connected to the Disc
    drive.

    It did take a try or two and some waving about of the controller to pair, but this method did work. Hope you other dudes get yours sorted!
