    X Box controllers flakey connection on Windows when connected by USB C cable


    This has been going on for a year now, the xbox controller stops working on windows. It will stop working in the middle of the game even though the controller is powered on, and connected via usb c cable. Happened on windows 10, and happens now on windows 11. I have gone through all of the steps in this thread Xbox One controller on PC Suddenly stops working - Microsoft Community and nothing improves. This only happens when I use controllers on windows, happens on two different x box controllers on two different windows pc's.

    I am aware that you're experiencing issues with your Xbox controllers on Windows. This can be a frustrating issue, especially when it interrupts your gaming experience. Here are a few additional steps you might try:

    Firmware Update: Make sure your controller’s firmware is up-to-date. You can check this by going to Profile & system > Settings > Devices & connections > Accessories on your Xbox. If an update is available, follow the steps provided.

    Power Cycle: Try power cycling the controller. To power cycle your controller:

    1. Press and hold the Xbox button  for 5-10 seconds, until the controller turns off.
    2. Wait a few seconds, then press and hold the Xbox button  again to turn the controller back on.

    Leave the controller connected via USB and just let it sit for up to 5 minutes, as the update can sometimes take a while to complete in the background.

    If you’re still having issues, try updating your controller on a Windows PC by using the Xbox Accessories app. For steps on how to do this, see the “Update on PC” section at:

    Hi,

    Almost any USB C to USB A cable (your standard USB Phone/tablet charge cable) will work fine for PC or console gaming with a Series X type controller. I use a 2M USB C cable to connect my Series X controller to my PC.

    I don't have any Bluetooth issues, but using a cable does avoid changing the batteries so much. 😁

    Good question. I believe the controller will be able to connect with either USB A or C depending on the cable most likely, but it may be just a USB C - USB C connection.
