Wrong email will get receipt at Xbox Series X checkout

Based on your description, when you try to checkout you see your account not related to your Xbox showing as recipient of the email receipt. There is a chance that this may be other Microsoft account or a Microsoft email. Let us check on this together and sort this out in timely manner.

We understand that you wanted to use your current email address as recipient. Just curious, do you mind checking your shipping and billing address if the email address added there is the account you are referring to?

Is that to say that the games I purchased on accounts I closed are gone when I get the Series X? There has to be some universal receipt proving all of the games I've purchased should there not?

you have to check if you purchased the right version. Cards for Xbox One are not compatible with the Xbox Series game and vice versa.

If you have purchased the wrong card you'll have to contact the MS support via the Microsoft contact us site. Make sure to have the card and the receipt by hand and access to your account email for the verification code.

The store you purchase the gift cards at has to activate the card at checkout when you make the purchase. It sounds like there was an issue with activation at checkout at the store. Take the card and your receipt to the store and ask to speak to manager
and explain to them the card wasnt' activated.
