Won't let me take an available GT on specific accounts

I've been trying to take this one GT for the past hour or so. I originally had it typed in online to change it but then decided I wanted it on another account. I never press change GT or anything on the first account I typed it into. I went on my other
account, typed the name in and it showed numbers at the end of the same GT I typed into the other account. Why is it showing now the original gamertag is taken when it's not? I thought it was bugged so I bought a completely different GT on the original account
I typed the name into to ensure it wasn't bugged and thinking I was holding the name but, it's still happening. I tried going on my main account as well on both the website and xbox to change the GT to that same name and it showed as available but then I go
on the account I actually want it on and it still shows taken. Why...?

when you check a gamertag before you select change, it reserves it and locks it out for an hour or so, just wait a while and it will be available again.

Thank you for taking the time to post this on the Xbox Forums. We understand that you are currently facing issues when trying to change your Gamertag. But don't worry, the following troubleshooting will fix the issues.

Step 1: Remove your account:

First, please select System > Settings > account > remove accounts and then select your account and select Remove to confirm.

Then, hold down the power button for about 10 seconds, until the console shuts off, then unplug the power cord and wait for 2-3 minutes before plugging it back in and turn on the Xbox.

Step 2: Reset your console:

If you are still encountering the same issue, please select System > Settings > System > Console info > Select Reset console > Choose Reset and keep my games and apps.

Note =>The "Reset and Keep my Games and Apps" option will not cause losing your games, but please be aware that you need to be completely aware of the email address as well as the password of your account before going for it because it will require you to sign in to the account.

Step 4: Check your internet connection:

In case the issue still persists, please try connecting to a different network, or perhaps using a hotspot momentarily to just sync your worlds and then connecting to your home network once more.

Step 5: Change our Gamertag online:

If the issue still persists after trying the pervious steps, please try changing your gamertag online using the link below:

I'm sorry you are experiencing this with your Microsoft account. No worries, let me help you sort this out.

Kindly try to sign in to that specific Microsoft account on account.microsoft.com to see if you will be able to access it on the web browser.

Check your payment and billing > Order History if it's the right account.

Keep your account signed in and try to connect it to your computer.

Thanks for the responses! I actually tried the above suggestions but when I go to delete my profile, it won't let me. It states that action is not available, even though I am signed out of my account. Any way to get around the prompt that won't let me
delete the profile?
