Y do they make Xbox series s so low in storage that u have to pay an extra at minimum £80 for 2tb storage and then u can’t play the games download on the external storage I bought it to be able to play more games not to have it to just sit there holding games because the rubbish series s only has 500gb storage and start up updated take close to 450gb

Yes but all the games I’m putting on the hdd like Conan exiles for example is a 150gb game I can not physically have gta online FIFA 23 fm23 and Conan installed on Xbox series s as it’s storage is 500gb and the install stuff use 395gb up

technically you don't need 4.8GBps you only need 2.7GBps as the external rip off SSD is that speed.

for instance, my sons pc has a 2.2GBps nvme and is fully compatible for direct storage optimisations. same thing as console too.

As mentioned you can run the games just not PATCHED

or you can move them.back and forth to play

Fyi you are talking about 10x the speed difference in tech

When you look at your library it will say xbox one enhanced or series games those have to be runned on next gen storage like all consoles

Anything that has the fps booster also needs it

First you do know that your external hdd runs at 500mbps right ? And to run series or patched games you need 4.8gbps

You can run non patched or optimized xbox one or older games on your hdd

But the updates aren't 480gigs like you said maybe your patches just don't accept the patches fir your games or just move the games you need optimized as you go and store then back on the hdd when you don't need them

Next gen games need direct access ro.the gpu cpu and memory thats not possible with 20 year old tech

I know there are a lot of posts but let me re-summarize.

Hard drive was working with everything.

Xbox updated.

External Hard Drive allows Apps to install no issue, but games will not install or be moved to the External Hard Drive.

Games that were on the external drive still work but are no longer able to update and as such error out when attempting to play.

Given hardware did not change and is still in working order as evidenced by being read and installing Apps (small sized files compared to games), the only thing that changed was software (the update).

Some users report certain external hard drive enclosures work still ($7.99 on Amazon) but previous ones stopped. This tells me there is a driver incompatibility or a soft block on certain external device enclosures.
