Wireless Xbox One PC controller adapter bricked after reinstalling Windows

As title states,

After reinstalling Windows on my PC the Xbox One controller is totally unresponsive. I’ve tried reinstalling drivers, uninstalling the device and then installing drivers again. Disabling and reenabling the device in Device Manager was totally useless.

Unplugging and replugging the USB brings no prompts and does nothing. I am able to see the controller connected in Device Manager but inputs do not respond. The only button actually showing input is the Xbox button, bringing up the Xbox app on PC and nothing more.

I’ve tried connecting this to other PCs, and the behavior persists.

Any support is appreciated.

I'm sorry to hear that, how long ago did you purchase the adapter? If it's been more than 90 days than sadly all I can advise is to purchase a new one.

If it's happening on different PC's then it would more than likely mean that either the adapter or the controller are the problem.

Would you please try having your PC forget the controller and disconnect. If it still continues to disconnect, try uninstalling and reinstalling the controller drivers by following our Wireless Controller Setup.

The Xbox One Wireless controller with Bluetooth can be connected to a Windows 10 PC with a USB cable, Bluetooth, or with the Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows 10, so yes, it can be connected via the adapter. The Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows 10 is not
compatible with an Xbox 360 controller and will need the Xbox 360 Wireless Gaming Receiver for Windows. I'll provide the support articles with this information:
