Wireless xbox controller randomly pressing buttons

Hi all
So I recently got a wireless Xbox 360 controller, and for a few days it's been working fine, however starting today it's acting.. Weird
The joystick, for example, seems to somehow control my spotify, bring up the on screen keyboard, alt+tab a few times, open and activate the magnifier, and also slowly bring the volume down, all by pushing it to the left. Moving the right joystick seems to right click my mouse, both the triggers are controlling my media player.. Each button seems to have a mind of its own. I've tried restarting both the device, and my PC itself, and uninstalling the drivers for the device, but the problem still persists. It's a weird issue, but hopefully someone's already solved this? I'd like to advise you that this controller is a bare minimum of eight years old, and even if it's just been sitting in a box all that time, electronics and age don't go together well.

I would suggest you return it, as it is likely defective

The good news for you is that hyperkin is launching a replica of the controller this week, if that's your preferred configuration. Personally I would recommend purchasing an Xbox one controller for the advanced features, better wireless support, Bluetooth support etc.

I recommend cleaning your controller. Dirt and gunk can build up. You can use toothpicks to clean around the buttons. You can also use mild, disinfecting wipes to give it a general surface clean.

Then if it is brand new I would recommend have a word with the place you got it from as it could be a fault with the pad and if you have only have it a couple of weeks then you should have problem returning it.

The console is brand new, only a few hours of play. Got it a few weeks ago in December. Though did thouroughly clean it with a towel making sure not to make it worse. LOL. It's brand new!

Turn on your PC and sign in.

Turn on your controller by pressing the

Xbox button will start flashing.
Press and hold the

Xbox button on the controller will flash more rapidly – this means your controller is searching for the Xbox Wireless Adapter.
When connected, the Xbox button on the controller will stay lit.
