    wireless xbox controller not connecting to wireless adapter


    (win 10)

    xbox controller series x|s (or xbox one? it's the one with the round clicky d-pad and the grippy rough texture. it says this (with line breaks instead of semicolons) on the box: xbox series x|s; xbox one; windows 10; android; iOS)

    it worked perfectly fine for a long time, but randomly decided to not work over the adapter.
    I'm not a moron, I am in range with charged batteries and am following the manual exactly.

    it still works over cable and bluetooth. I only have bluetooth on my smartphone, not my pc and my cable doesn't reach very far, so I really want it to work again.

    the led on the adapter is still blinking when it should

    I've tried:

    resetting the controller (by holding the button near the shoulder buttons, that you use for pairing, for 20 seconds)

    updating the controller.

    uninstalling the wireless usb thing from device manager.

    swapping the usb-port.

    that device manager thing, where you set it to allow to wake the pc or something.

    the method that involves turning airplane mode on and off.

    I really have no clue what it could be.

    Because Xbox controllers use a proprietary wireless technology known as Xbox Wireless. As such you can't use any adapter to connect the controller, it has to be the Xbox Wireless adapter specifically.

    Is this an Xbox One controller, or an Xbox 360 controller? If it's an Xbox One controller, are you connecting wirelessly to the PC via Bluetooth, or with the Xbox Wireless Adapter?

    Please check these steps below.

    What you are seeing with the LEDs is an indication that the Xbox 360 Explorer controller is entering pairing mode, not working mode. In order for the controller to function on your PC, you must first pair it with the Xbox 360 Wireless Adapter.

    Steps to pair the controller with the wireless adapter:

    Connect the wireless adapter: Connect the Xbox 360 Wireless Adapter to a USB port on your PC.

    Press the pairing button on the adapter: On the wireless adapter, there is a small button (usually near the USB port). Press and hold this button for a few seconds. The LED on the adapter should start blinking.

    Turn on the controller: Press the Xbox button in the center of the controller to turn it on.

    I asume you are talking about the official Xbox Wireless Adapter Controller.

    Is that is true, you can follow the steps described in here for connecting it : https://beta.support.xbox.com/help/...ories/xbox-wireless-adapter-for-windows-setup

    If not, the other solution is :

    Plug the Wireless Adapter to your PC

    Connect your Xbox One Controller to your PC via USB cable

    When the controller is connected, unplug the USB cable from the controller

    At this point, the controller should be paired with your Wireless Adapter (or at least, that works for me everytime!)

    It is not possible to use the Xbox 360 wireless adapter to connect this controller to your PC. This controller looks like it features Bluetooth so you may be able to connect it this way or alternately you can connect it via a USB cable or the wireless adapter.

    It may also be possible to purchase the controller and wireless adapter together such as I have linked below.

    Please note to use the Windows wireless adapter it looks like your PC must be running Windows 10.
