    Wired Xbox 360 controller isn't working with my PC, how to fix?


    I want to play Halo 3 (MCC) with my wired Xbox 360 controller. I've plugged in my controller via USB and downloaded the necessary drivers (from here https://www.microsoft.com/accessories/en-gb/d/xbox-360-controller-for-windows) but the controller's middle
    button continues to flash and not connect when pressed.

    When I go into Device Manager on my PC and try to update the drivers, the only option is 'AVerMedia Consumer Infrared Receiver'. The device called Xbox Peripherals only appears to be for wireless controllers. I am trying to use my controller as a wired connection.

    Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

    If your controller isn't working on other PC running Windows 11 it tells me something is wrong with your controller.

    There aren't any compatibility issues with older Xbox 360 controllers and Windows 11. I've just tried my old Xbox 360 wired controller in my brand new Windows 11 based PC and it works fine. The fact that it isn't working now is likely coincidental.

    Paul from the Xbox Forums Team here to assist with the issue, it looks like you're trying to get a Xbox 360 controller to work on your pc. How is this controller connecting to your PC? Is it a wired controller or wireless controller? If it's a wireless 360
    controller there is a wireless dongle that would be needed to have the controller work on PC. Please let us know.

    the answer is it is a wireless controller they dont work with the usb charging cable ive tried it on windows 7 and 10 you need a proper wired controller apparently.
    That's true for 360 controllers, but not Xbox One. The Xbox One controllers work wired and via wireless on PC. My wiress controllers all work fine via the micro USB cable on my PC.

    Windows 7 doesn't come with drivers built in to the OS though, they may need need to be downloaded manually if Windows update isn't picking up the controller.

    Is the controller a wireless controller or wired? If it is wireless, how are you connecting it? If by using the play & charge kit, then the Xbox 360 controller will not work, as the cable is only recognized on PC for charging only. You need to use a Xbox
    360 Wireless adapter for PC to connect a wireless Xbox 360 controller to your PC.

    My MadCatz 360 controller works with PC games, so yes third party wired controllers do work on the PC.
