    Wired Microsoft Xbox 360 controller stopped working on PC.


    I've recently bought my self a new xbox 360 controller after my old one kinda died. It has always worked untill today. It doesn't matter what game I try to play (via Steam or Origin), neither of those work, however, the Xbox Game Bar (By pressing the xbox logo on the controller) does work! I can even use my joysticks and buttons.

    Things i've tried:

    - Update drivers

    - Try different USB ports

    - Reinstall the games

    - Remove controller in device manager

    - Plugged my old, but broken controller in and it worked fluently, too bad I can't use it since some of the buttons are broken.

    Paul from the Xbox Forums Team here to assist with the issue, it looks like you're trying to get a Xbox 360 controller to work on your pc. How is this controller connecting to your PC? Is it a wired controller or wireless controller? If it's a wireless 360
    controller there is a wireless dongle that would be needed to have the controller work on PC. Please let us know.

    Xbox One controller broken by Windows Anniversary Update

    Same issues here. Bought a new Xbox one s bluetooth controller to replace my 360 pad, and it either works briefly then stops, the button presses are incorrect or doubled. Some games and steam see it as two controllers. The whole reason I bought an xbox pad
    for the pc is for the ease of plug and play and compatibility and no fussing around. Yet, Microsoft seems to have messed it properly with xbox one controller support on windows. Back to my wired 360 pad I go.

    Is the controller a wireless controller or wired? If it is wireless, how are you connecting it? If by using the play & charge kit, then the Xbox 360 controller will not work, as the cable is only recognized on PC for charging only. You need to use a Xbox
    360 Wireless adapter for PC to connect a wireless Xbox 360 controller to your PC.

    Trying to use XBOX 360 controller with my PC

    My MadCatz 360 controller works with PC games, so yes third party wired controllers do work on the PC.

    To play on a PC with an Xbox 360 controller you need to get a wired controller. On Xbox 360 the "wire" is only used for charging on the wireless controller.
