Wired Controller on PC

I use an Xbox Series S controller with a USB-C cable to play certain games on my PC. However, if I press the Xbox button at any point, it will render the controller useless and I can only press the Xbox button. Can't use the sticks, D-pad, bumpers, triggers, or buttons. I've unplugged it and replugged it. I've tried connecting the controller to my Xbox and then plugging it back into my PC—none of those worked. The only way I'm able to fix the problem is by restarting my PC.

Is there anyone else who has encountered this issue? Have you found any fixes? Is there a way to fix this issue?

Many controller issues can be resolved by putting the controller through a complete power cycle. To power cycle your controller:
1. Press and hold the Xbox button for 5-10 seconds, until the controller turns off.
2. Wait a few seconds, then press and hold the Xbox button again to turn the controller back on.

Update your controller:
1. Press the Xbox button to open the guide.
2. Under Profile & system, select Settings.
3. Under Devices & connections, select Accessories.
4. On the Xbox Wireless Controller screen, select “…” to check the firmware version for your controller.
5. If it says there's no update available, your controller is current. If it says “Update,” follow the steps provided.

To play on a PC with an Xbox 360 controller you need to get a wired controller. On Xbox 360 the "wire" is only used for charging on the wireless controller.

I used wired when I play PC for both Controller and headset. On xbox, I use a wireless controller, but a wired headset.

Paul from the Xbox Forums Team here to assist with the issue, it looks like you're trying to get a Xbox 360 controller to work on your pc. How is this controller connecting to your PC? Is it a wired controller or wireless controller? If it's a wireless 360
controller there is a wireless dongle that would be needed to have the controller work on PC. Please let us know.
