Windows Xbox app not downloading games on fibre ISP that uses CGNAT

Hi,

I've recently changed ISP from a copper line to a full fibre line. The new fibre ISP uses CGNAT which I believe could be causing the issues. When I choose a game to download it will sit on 0 B/S for a while then download a quick burst of ~300MB then drop to 0 B/S for a while again.

If I connect to a VPN, or use another internet connection then games download smoothly. I have spoken to my ISP who believe it is likely due to the CGNAT and would likely only be resolved by getting a static IP, however they said if anyone knew of any other solutions the ISP could do to resolve the issue they would be happy to look into it.

I can suggest two possible solutions before you reach your ISP technical support team for a final resolution on your problem.

These possible solutions are:

A. Disable the IPv6 feature in your network adapter properties:

These links lead to a non-Microsoft websites. The pages appear to be providing accurate, safe information. Watch out for ads on the sites that may advertise products frequently classified as a PUP (Potentially Unwanted Products). Thoroughly research any product advertised on the sites before you decide to download and install it.

I may have finally found the issue. My ISP is operating a CGNAT, meaning I'm in a dual NAT scenario, and no amount of port forwarding I do on my end will matter, since I don't have the ability to port forward on the CGNAT.

I have a support request into my ISP now to see about getting a static public IP, which I suspect will completely resolve this issue. WIll update if that does it.

Your speed is high is it fibre?

If It is fiibre then you need to work with your isp as fibre isn't setup for gaming by default

ISP skybroadband currently running at a pathetic 3.5 mbps! cant get fibre where i am yet. xbox is plugged into a sky booster but still bad. i have previously downloaded a free game and this worked

It's NOT entirely your ISP's fault, but still best to be with a good ISP regardless if your on ADSL of Fibre. Some services to Xbox Live do go down sometimes. It's also the way they designed the software on Xbox 1 console. Well at least they didn't put Windows
Vista onto Xbox 1 - that was a horrible OS. Game developers can also choose to use Microsoft's servers or their own servers. It's down to several factors, not-just your own internet speed.
