Hi. My name is Brilliant and I am happy to assist you today.

For a possible fix on your issue, open the Xbox app. Select Your profile picture > Settings > Install options. Select the Change where this app installs games by default dropdown and change the folder to the desired drive.

For more information and possible solutions on game installation issues, you can follow this link: https://support.xbox.com/help/hardware-network/warranty-service/help-with-existing-service-order

Hope this resolves your issue. Have a great day.

    Hi AndreiZhuk1!

Sorry to hear about what's happening. Believe me, this is clearly not the situation I want you to be in. I would feel the same if I were in your shoes.

In regard to the issue you're experiencing, it's possible to be a bug since it just changes back when you restart your PC. The Xbox team actually appreciates our feedback and reports/suggestions for them to investigate and fix any issues we encounter. I recommend that you file a bug directly to the Feedback Hub. Xbox app doesn't remember default install location

It always reverts back to C: instead of D: after I restart my computer. Everything is updated fully. I am on Windows 11 too. I don't understand why. I even completely removed XboxGames folder from C: so it wouldn't be picked up by the Xbox app, but nothing, it still defaults to C: every single time.

    Same issue here too.

New Windows 11 PC with a 400 GB boot partition with 109 GB free and several NVMe drives with up to 2 TB free but I keep getting error 0x80070003 while installing or updating any game from the Xbox app because they are being downloaded first to my C: drive before being moved to the drive I actually specified the game to be installed to.

The Xbox app defaults to the C: drive and I can change it to any other drive and it seems to apply but as soon as I close the app and reopen it then it resets back to C:. It seems like a very serious bug or oversight to me because games were installing fine until recently but as my User folder has grown larger and the amount of free space on my C drive has reduced then so have the number of issues with games installing from the Xbox app. I now no longer download any new game or update any existing game from my library that are installed across several drives due to error 0x8007003. I have NO games installed on C; that is used primarily for Windows and non-gaming application installs.

All my games are installed on other drives from D to O, all of which have at least 250 GB free and several of them are almost empty with almost 2 TB free. Yet I cannot install games to these drives because my C drive is being used instead of the drives I am installing the game to! How stupid is that?

Cannot Select a Default Drive on XBox PC App

In Windows 10, you can now select where your new Windows apps from the Store will install and save data to by default instead of on the Windows drive.

You can select to install new Windows apps to any internal or external drive, including SD cards, USB drives, and USB flash drives. You cannot use mapped network drives, and you can only use one location at a time to save apps to. The drives will not need to
be formatted to be able to use them to install and store Windows apps.

Windows 10 will only install new apps to the currently selected location.
Existing apps do not get moved to the new location. If you wanted your existing apps installed to the new location as well, then you could uninstall the apps you want, and install them again to have them installed to the new location. You can
lose the existing data for the app by doing this though.

Follow the steps to change the location of the apps.

    1. Open the Settings app, and click/tap on the System icon.
    2. Click/tap on Storage on the left side. On the right side under
Save locations, select the drive you want New apps will save to.
    3. When finished, you can close Settings.

    Note: The default location is
This PC for the Windows C: drive.
