Windows/Xbox Accounts

I have two different hotmail.co.uk addresses, one for my normal microsoft account, and one for my xbox live account.

Is there a way to make it so my xbox account uses my normal microsoft account? I have tried adding my normal account email as an alias on my xbox account, (with the intention of then deleting my xbox email address as an alias) but that doesn't seem to be
working (temporary problem with the service).

This is all in aid of family account settings. Now that my eldest son has a PC, he can't be in my family on both accounts which is frustrating. I am also having problems with the xbox app on my PC so was wondering if the mismatched accounts were the cause,
and was trying to eliminate that.

ok, then you probably want to change the microsoft account associated to your xbox live account

via the how to here:

support.xbox.com/.../manage-microsoft-account

So basically move the gamertag "User1234567" currently attached to your windows live account to a new windows live account (Microsoft account) to free up your windows live account (no xbox live account attached)

This will allow changing the windows live account attached to your xbox live account to a new windows live account (Microsoft account). And connecting your windows live account (microsofts account) to your account on the pc, will connect your local pc account
to your windows live account and xbox live account.

Just keep in mind that changing the windows live account associated to an xbox live account can only be done via the console and the profile needs to be on a console for at least 30 days (if I understand correctly)

But if my current Windows Live account is linked to this generic "User1234567" Xbox live account they made for me, won't it still be linked to that Xbox Live account when I go to re-set Windows 8 to a Windows Live login instead of a local login?

What I need to know how to do is de-link this Xbox Live account from my Windows Live account and re-link a different Xbox Live account to it instead.

the xbox account IS the microsoft account, if you have 2 emails then you have 2 xbox accounts, sign into windows and the windows store/xbox app with the correct email with the sub attached.

As you don't want to try that, go to
https://account.live.com and sign in with the Xbox 360 account, then go to aliases and add the PC's account. The 360 needs to be primary because that's the best way to guarantee it will keep working, and then you still get to keep the Hotmail account.

However, this won't link the two as in make them be associated with the same Gamertag, so games played on Windows 8 will not show up on your 360 profile. For that you do need to change the associated email, which can be read about here:

I do not believe so. A few people have asked to have accounts merged but MS doesn't seem to do that.

If you are not attached to your current xbox account, you can just login with your normal account make a gamertag and start using that (reinvite friends and all that).
