Windows Store and mapped Network Shared Drive

Hi,

My desktop PC contains limited size of M.2 drive. This is why I use mapped network shared drive for installing large Steam games and Epic games.

Can you implement this also very valuable feature in your Windows Store and Xbox app? Currently only local drives are supported.

When we will be able to install apps or games on mapped drives? Why you are blocking it?

Steam and Epic lunchers support mapped shared network drives and everythink works fine. Why Xbox App cannot be like Steam?

I bought XBOX Game Pass and I cannot install i.e. MS Flight Simulator - requires 152GB

My NAS has more than 4TB free.

because microsoft in their infinite wisdom use folder encryption for the DRM and protection of the game files, this has to be done on an NTFS file system.

most if not all nas units and network attached storage use the ext4 linux file system.

It is SMB protocol. I can share every kind of partition, no matter what file system is on the drive. Windows 10 sees it as Samba, maps as network drive (assigns drive letter). But you maight be right: MS probably supports only NTFS. Only Stream and Epic
know how to manage safetly another media types. And they do this properly. I hope Microsoft catch up with this feature because currently it is a big blocker and I think not only for me but a huge number of Game Pass PC subscribers.

The only option in these drop-downs is C. None of my mapped drives display.

It may only allow locally attached drives, however I believe it will require the drive to be formated in NTFS to work. Is that what your nas drive is formatted as?

Yep - the NAS is just a server running an instance of Win10 x64 Pro, and all the network drives are normal shares. Currently feels like a limitation of the desktop program.

What is the IP address your PC uses? kb.wisc.edu/page.php?id=27309
explains how to find it.

What is the IP address your Xbox uses? Settings | System Settings | Network Settings | (pick your network) | Configure Network will show you under Basic Settings.

If the two are the same then it will fail, and reverting to Automatic IP settings on the Xbox then turning the Xbox off for 8 seconds or more then turning it back on is the easiest way to solve that.
