Windows 10 - Xbox One controller triggers do not work (follow-up to closed thread)

This is a follow-up to a closed thread that I found about the triggers on an Xbox one controller not working on some PC games, where the OP did not get a response that met their needs.

I am a long-term, casual Windows desktop user who is just starting to dabble in video games. I was trying to start use of the "Redout Enhanced Edition for PC" racing game on my Steam account with an Xbox one controller connected wirelessly via an Xbox USB
adapter (which appeared to need setting up in a USB 2.0 rear port to get the right driver before use in a USB 3.0 front port). I found that all the buttons on the controller worked except RT (accelerate) and LT (brake). I checked that the w and s keys on my
keyboard did perform these functions so I experimented with the Steam and Redout settings until I found a combination that enabled the trigger buttons also to perform these functions, as follows:

Select Steam at top left on Steam application home page, then settings, controller, general controller settings, xbox configuration support

Click Back and then Desktop Configuration

Select Right Trigger and insert "w" from presented keyboard image in Full Pull Action and Soft Pull Action boxes

Select Left Trigger and insert "s" in the same boxes there

Select Done, return to app home page and right-click game Redout in the games list of the left pane. Click on Properties.

Remove any check mark from Enable the Steam Overlay while in-game and Use Desktop Game . . .

Set Steam Input Per-Game Setting to Forced Off

Set Use BPM Overlay . . . to Forced Off

With these settings, the trigger buttons worked for the Redout game.

Please recognize that this was just my personal trial-and-error solution for one particular game that worked for me, YMMV. Other games may have different Settings options. I may have altered some other settings and forgotten that I did so, so other tweaks
    may be required.

    :)

My first step would be to try to update the firmware on the controller. You do that on XBox connected with an USB cable.

Getting that out of the way, try again. If it doesn't work it might be a case of bad implementation of the controller's API.

Xbox One controller on PC - triggers don't work

Do the triggers work when you test them in Windows?

In Windows 8.1 search for your controllers by typing in USB in the search box. Select 'Set up USB Game Controllers'. In the next window, click on the 'Properties' button. Pressing the triggers should show the Z Axis going up and down - depending on what trigger
is pressed. If the Z Axis does not move, there is something wrong with your controller.

Whether the triggers will work in your game, depends on whether the game you are playing supports the triggers or not. Games that support the Xbox 360 and Xbox One controller natively will support the triggers, other games may not.

    My car won’t accelerate

You by chance test your controller to see if your triggers are correctly working? I'm not sure you can test this on the console, but any Windows 10 PC should be able to do this.

You do this by typing "controller" in windows search.

It should pop up with set up game controller or something close.

    Click "properties"

    Settings tab

    Calibrate...

That is only if you have access to a windows 10 PC. You might be able to do this with any windows PC, just not sure.

If that's not the issue I would look into the game assists. There is some that could control and/ or limit you. Like auto brakes, speed control etc.

    Hope this helps.

Windows 10 - Xbox One controller triggers do not work

Okay then, nevermind. I returned my Xbox One controller and got a refund. I will be switching to a Playstation 4 controller. At least then I don't have to worry about a game having XInput support.

I also will not have to worry about needing official support from Microsoft. That did not turn out well at all. You people need to hire professionals.
