Windows 10 shows my xbox 360 wireless adapter as "unknown device"

    Hey all,

I have a 360 wireless xbox 360 controller, which works with my pc using a wireless adapter through usb.

I've been using it for years daily, using windows 7.

I recently updated to windows 10, and now it doesn't work.

Device manager shows it as "unknown decive".

I tried updating windows, plugging it to another usb port, restarting, updating driver using the "let me find" option on device manager, uninstalling xbox 360 accessories...nothing works Windows 10 shows my xbox 360 wireless adapter as "unknown device" :(

    I got to this screen:

Windows 10 shows my xbox 360 wireless adapter as "unknown device" [IMG]

But when I press ok - it still shows as an unknown device...

It works perfectly on my laptop using windows 10, Installed and tested today.

Any idea what else can be done?

    :)

    Hey,

I read that it's included in Windows 10 as part of the windows update.

I had it installed originally, uninstalled, now tried installing again - no luck.

xbox 360 Wireless Adapter device driver for windows 10

i found this on another thread.... please try the following:

For a wireless adapter for your Xbox 360 controller, look under your device manager.

Then look under unknown peripherals or something that is unknown.

Click update driver / browse computer for driver software.

Select let me pick a list of available drivers.

Find Xbox 360 wireless receiver for windows (newest version).

That should get your controller to connect to the wireless adapter.

    Xbox 360 Wireless Adapter

    Greetings Jake!

I understand that you are having troubleshooting issues with your Xbox 360 wireless adapter... I'd be happy to assist! It is possible that your PC is recognizing the receiver as an "unknown device". If this is the case, I will walk you through how to manually track down this device and how to manually update the driver as necessary.

Step 1: Ensure your wireless adapter is plugged in (most adapters will be able to showcase this with a light indicator)
Step 2: Track down the device by inputting Windows Key + X on your keyboard. This should pop up with a small window. Click on "Device Manager".
Step 3: Scroll down until you see "Other Devices". Once found, click on the arrow to find a drop down which should display "Unknown Device".

If you see the "Unknown Device" within this category, please continue to step 4. Otherwise, skip to the bottom of this post so I can gather more details regarding the device you're currently using.

Step 4: Right click "Unknown Device" and select "Update Driver".
Step 5: A new window will appear, select "Browse my computer for drivers".
Step 6: Select "Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my PC".
Step 7: Scroll towards the bottom and you should see "Xbox 360 Peripherals". Click this option.
Step 8: A new list will appear, click "Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows" then select "Next". You may receive an update driver warning, this is due to a computer with Windows 10 not recognizing Xbox 360 hardware.
Step 9: Once all steps are complete, your controller should be good to go! You should be able to sync your Xbox 360 controller to your wireless adapter.

If the steps above did not resolve this troubleshooting issue, please provide me with a few more details.
-Are you currently using an Xbox brand wireless adapter or a third party adapter?
-Is your PC updated with Windows 10?
-Are you able to plug your controller in directly to your PC? If so, does your Xbox 360 controller work as intended?

These details will help me better assist you! Looking forward to your response :)
