    do this step by step

    press guide button, click join xbox live, enter email, enter password, choose securty question and answer, make sure you enter the correct birthdate, confirm your info, accept the terms and conditions, select no thanks when asked to purchase gold, click
    try gold for free select continue then click start free trial. enter billing info, and you will be good to go
