Will there be future updates on the Xbox Series X to allow longer game captures / screen recordings?

Currently the maximum is 3 minutes at 720p and 30 seconds at 4K. I would like to record events, matches, and other things longer than 3 minutes if the system is able to do it. Thanks for any information.

    :)

    Game captures

Are you referring to the limit on the Series X/S?

In the Settings menu on your console, select Preferences, and find and select Capture & Share. This allows you to change the recording length, resolution, capture location etc. Changing these allow you to get up to 3 mins of recording.

Xbox Series X capture does not record my voice (Sept 2023)

    Hello, OGCryptor!

I’m sorry to hear that you’re having trouble recording your voice with your Xbox Series X. It seems like you’ve already tried a lot of troubleshooting steps.

As of now, the Xbox Series X does not have a built-in feature to record voice commentary over gameplay using the console’s capture system. This is a limitation of the current system and not something you’re doing wrong.

The options you mentioned were indeed available on older console models but are no longer present on the Series X.

If you want to include your voice in your gameplay recordings, you might need to consider using external hardware or software. For example, you could use a PC with capture software that can record both gameplay and commentary, or a dedicated game capture device.

I hope this helps clarify the situation. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask!

any updates to xbox series x game capture (2 minutes @ 1080)?

If you use an external drive as the capture location, you can record footage at 1080p that's way longer than 1 minute, but it has 2 important limitations.

    1. You have to start and stop the recording manually. You can't use the "record that" feature to capture longer clips of something that just happened; that would still be limited to 1 minute at 1080p.

    2. Clips captured on external storage cannot be shared over Xbox Live.

I think it's a good solution if you're recording footage to transfer over to a PC, edit, then upload to YouTube, but it's no good if you want to capture longer clips to share with friends over Xbox Live.

I wonder why they reduced the recording times though. I'm sure when I got my Xbox Series X, there was a 2 minute option for 1080p, but now, as you said, it's only 1 minute.

    Xbox Game Clips Not Recording

Check that your capture settings are adjusted to your preferred settings. You can find this by pushing the Guide X button, captures and settings. You can set it to Allow Captures by you, or you and the game, the time duration, I use one min, Automatically
upload, Resolution and storage location. With automatic upload, I found that it caused delay in capturing because the console is trying to upload, while I was asking it to record again, and this just caused the system to get confused. Double check your capture
storage is set properly to Internal Storage, or an external storage formatted for pictures, not games.

To grab a quick screen shot push the Guide X button, then Y to snap a pic. To grab a clip push the Guide X button and X. These are quick button references to getting captures with limited interruption of game play.

In my experience, if I try to snap or clip too often or too quick it will not record them all. I try to wait for the notification to pop that the recording or pic was taken before taking another snap or clip.

my xbox capture (game DVR?) wont work

to check the settings for game captures, tap the Xbox button on the controller then press the RB 3 times to get to the system tab

    select Settings

from the options on the left select Preferences, then on the right side of the screen select Capture & Share.

make sure that under Capture it is set to allow "Captures by me or games" OR "Captures by me"

choose the other options that best suit your requirements for duration, auto upload, resolution and storage location then when you do something in a game and want to record it simply tap the Xbox button and press X and it will record whatever just happened.

    hope this helps
