Will the Xbox Series S be able to run 120hz @ 1080p

I pre ordered the Xbox series S recently and also ordered a new 1080p 144hz monitor with HDMI 1.4 and 2.0. Will the Xbox series S be able to run at 1080p with a refresh rate of 60-120hz on my new monitor? Also will the refresh rate be mostly on the high
side toward 120hz or low side at 60hz?Thanks.

Hey,

Its an AOC 24G2. It actually may only come with HDMI 1.4 and no HDMI 2.0, if that makes a difference.

Your screen will be ok for 120hz on series s but support for 120fps in games will be dependent on the game istself, some will focus on 60fps some will float about but as you have freesync then the xbox will use VRR so all should be ok.

Do you have the Xbox One, or the Xbox Series S? You'd be surprised how many people get the names confused.

If it's an Xbox One S, then that console doe not support 120Hz @ 4K. Also, the HDMI out on the Xbox One S is HDMI 2.0, not 2.1. Only the Xbox Series S and Series X support 4K @ 120Hz via the console settings. The One S is only 1080P.

Bear in mind also, that there are no games for the Xbox One S that do 120Hz (or 120 fps). The 120Hz option is only there to support VRR (variable refresh rate).

If you want to play 120Hz supported games, you will need a Series X. The Series S support of 120Hz games is a lot more limited.

Note that on the Qn95a, only HDMI 4 supports HDMI 2.1

What resolution are you trying to run at

If 4k 120 Hz then no it won't run at thaf

The max for series s is 1440p at 120hz

It will play at 4k bur only some games and with issues

The series s is meant for 1080p 120 max

With suggested 90hz

The xbox series x and ps5 and switch pro are the only 4k consoles

One x does 4k at 30hz and ps4 pro upscales
