    Hi,

    I have an old account with a gamertag "". However i created i new account and when trying to put the same name, but now i have numbers at then end of it. I did not know this was the case. My other account is now charging me for changing the name.
    If i pay the name change to something else, making my new account the only "" in the xbox ecosystem, will the numbers on my new account dissapear? Or is there some other way i could make that happen? Or do i don't have any options to have the gamertag
    "" on my new account?

    Hi Milkchocolate1,

    since a few months, back Xbox changed Gamertag to less character but included # at end, this is the new system, so changing or creating Gamertags now will give you numbers on the end, only those who kept original Gamertags from before the change get the OG
    tags without numbers.

    To my knowledge, it isn't released as soon as the account connected to it change it. You can use the gamertag but numbers will be added to it. You won't be able to get the original gamertag you just changed until it is recycle after many years.

    Im having the exact same issue, the problem is that looking around I saw that after the first gamer tag change it was no longer free and you have to pay for a new gamertag change, wouldnt this be like:

    Change my name to something else>hope no one takes my original name>pay for a new gamertag change for a name> go back to the name I already had but without those annoying numbers?

    and wouldnt the people who already changed it bc they thought the numbers wouldnt show pay the gamertag change twice? 🤔
