Will Smart Delivery still transfer games to a new console even if they are a physical copy?

I am thinking if buying an Xbox Series X when it comes out, so I want to make a plan of how to get the games I care about most from my Xbox One S to the new console. The most important game is Sea of Thieves, which luckily has Smart Delivery, however,
I own the game on a disc. Will I still get the updated port of the game on my new consile when I get it? Will the disc still be nessesary to play the game, even though it is a disc of the Xbox One port? Will all my progress and saved data be transfered?

If a game has been optimised for smart delivery, then you can play that game now on your current cosole and it will get upgrading when you move to the next generation Xbox Series X. Regardless if it's a digital copy or disc. But you will still need the disc
to play it on your the console.

Also, all your save game data will transfer over. If both consoles are connected to the same internal network, you will even be able to transfer all the downloaded game files, but I suspect there will be a patch to download to give you the new content.

Yes. Smart Delivery will work with physical discs. They haven't specified exactly how that will work yet, so I'm not sure about needing the disc in the drive or not. Progress and save data will transfer.

Even if bought a physical copy as long as the game is using smart delivery it will update in your storage to the latest capable software.

Yes, Xbox one games that support Smart Delivery will just have to be purchased once. If you purchase the Xbox one version of a game, you’ll receive the Series X|S version (and vice versa) when you upgrade.

Smart Delivery applies to both digital games and physical disks and your game progress will carry over, as normal, when you upgrade your console.

You also don’t need to do anything in terms of choosing a version to download, the system will automatically take care of that for you.
